review – I’ve been eyeing these monitor lights for a while now. A review of the Elesense Monitor Light Bar came up recently, so I thought I’d try one. The results are quite surprising.

Design and Features
I’m not sure if my main computer workspace in my home office would work well with the monitor lights, since the monitor is fairly high off the desk. I figured if it didn’t work, I’d use it on my standing desk, but I didn’t really get that far.
After opening the Elesense Monitor light strip box, my wife said, “Oh, that looks great!” It turned out to be pretty good. In fact, it’s so good that she’s not only happy with how well it illuminates her desk, but also eliminates the need for an overhead room light.
The Elesense Monitor Light Bar features 90 LED light bars housed in an aluminum housing that attaches magnetically to its base. The base can be attached to any monitor with a thickness between 0.7~4.5 cm (0.2~1.7 inches). I put it on my old 27″ iMac, the top is 27mm (1.06″) thick and it does work, but it does throw a little light on the screen.
The aluminum housing ensures that the light is highly directional, shining downwards. In typical settings, the light doesn’t hit your eyes or the monitor screen.
With three lighting modes (Precise, Read and Relax), 90 bi-color LEDs provide countless lighting variations. The built-in ambient light sensor also automatically adjusts lighting levels, or you can manually control color temperature and brightness levels from 3000K to 5000K. Ra95 Color Rendering Index (CRI) Colors are rendered in their natural state.
The automatic function maintains the 500 lux level when other lights are turned on or off. The ambient light sensor is in the wireless controller, which I must say is a very nice feature. There are no extra wires on your desk, and being able to move the controller around as needed is great.
The wireless controller has a touch-sensitive area for switching modes and rotating to change brightness or color temperature. The light’s power cable is a standard USB-A to USB-C cable, so you can power it from any USB source, or turn off the cable if you need a longer cable, although most monitors have one that you can plug into into the USB port.

The Elesense Monitor Light Bar really surprised me. I didn’t expect such a basic project to profoundly affect my wife’s work environment. She enjoyed it very much. I think I’ll have to get more of these for my computer setup.
