Design and Features

Let me start by saying that I am by no means a watch lover or expert, nor do I play on TV. In fact, I hadn’t worn a watch until I bought a smartwatch a few years ago. reason? In my previous position at the company, I worked with my own hands and nearly destroyed the watches I owned.

However, I do love mechanical (analog?) watches, and when given the chance to review this watch, I jumped up as soon as possible. This is by far the best watch I’ve ever worn.

Heimdall’s Workshop’s Gunhild brand manufactures watches in-house in North Carolina. They used Viking and Scandinavian folklore, military history and weapons in their designs.

Ganhild? Heimdall? Vivesil? Don’t worry, I’m not familiar with these terms either, I’ve watched the entire Vikings series twice! In short, Gunhild is the wife of Queen of Denmark and King Harald Bluetooth. Heimdall is a Norse god who guards the Rainbow Bridge, watching for invaders and Ragnarok. The Vegvisir is an ancient Icelandic symbol designed to help the bearer find their way in bad weather. According to a quick search I did online, Vegvisir meant, “If you carry this sign, you won’t get lost in a storm or bad weather, even if you don’t know the direction.”

With that in mind, let’s take a look at the Gunhild Vegvisir Adventure dive watch. Vegvisir is prominently displayed on the dial in what they call Antique Antique Brass and I think it looks great. As far as I know, the Viking runes used on the bezel represent wealth, power and happiness. The front, crown and case back include the Gunhild logo of the double-headed battle axe. You know what they say, go big or go home!

The watch is in a box, in a box, in a box, in a luxury case. True. I thought a tool for watch maintenance should be included, but mine is missing. I say this because one can be seen in a picture of the case on their website. Definitely not a deal breaker for me, but I had to delete a couple of links in the band and wanted to use what they usually contain.

Speaking of removing the strap links, I’m not sure how typical these types of high-end dive watches are, but the pins are actually screws, making it super easy for me to do it myself. Based on the design theme of Vegvisir Adventure, I think this is a great feature.

When I picked up the Gunhild Vegvisir Adventure watch, my first impression was how heavy it was. Honestly, I think it bothers me because my smartwatch is so much lighter. Once I adjusted my wrist size and put it on, all my doubts disappeared. The weight at least doesn’t bother me.

The second thing I noticed was my opinion on build quality, again not an expert. It appears to have been built with extreme attention to detail and tolerances. To me it screams high quality craftsmanship. The stainless steel case and bracelet complement the watch design.

The dial, oh man, that dial. I was fascinated by the Vegvisir design made of brass with a bronze looking background. It really pops in the sun. Might be too masculine for some, but I really like it.

The Gunhild Vegvisir Adventure is powered by an automatic Miyota 9015 Cal movement that winds automatically when worn. Other Gunhild watches use Swiss movements. I don’t know anything about watch movement so I hope this helps someone. All I know is that this thing holds time without wasting time since I started wearing it.

The double-dome sapphire glass oh, slightly bulges, and is sapphire glass, which I assume is pretty scratch resistant. So far so good. There are no scratches on my dome.

Gunhild’s other watches look equally striking. If you like this, you really should check it out.they currently have a crowdfunding campaign For a new collection called Range Day Collection. The first product of this line is dedicated to our military and law enforcement heroes. This is the V1 M4 Carbine, limited to 300 pieces, which ends in a few weeks.

OK, now for a couple of questions I’m having with the review sample. I don’t want to say it was dirty when I received it, but there are some areas on the bracelet and case that need a little cleaning. I can’t tell you why.

Maybe this was used as a display before it was shipped to me? I’m sure this is a one-off situation. With a little soap and water, it’s clean.

Next, there are minor scratches on the bracelet. It’s no big deal to me, but to others, it might be. Finally, the missing tools. I don’t know if it should be included. It has its place in the case and I did see a picture of it on the website.

what do I like

  • Icelandic Vikings Design
  • How this high-quality machine feels on your wrist
  • it is built at home

what would i change

final thoughts

I really enjoyed wearing the Gunhild Vegvisir Adventure. I love its aesthetics, build quality and the fact that it was built in the US. The Vegvisir symbol is always with me and I can find my way through the storm. Trust me, I can use all the help I can get.

Don’t forget to check their Range Day Collection, V1 M4 Carbine Kickstarter Campaign and also.
