Scotland reduces Covid limit to zero, but still keeps masks

Chief Minister Nicola Sturgeon delivered a speech to the Scottish Parliament on Tuesday, announcing the latest move to relax the blockade, which will take effect on July 19.

“Therefore, although Scotland will drop to level zero starting next Monday, we will make certain changes to our indicative plan,” she said.

“Given that we continue to face the challenges posed by the Delta variant, this is to ensure that our pace of loosening restrictions is reasonable.

“I will confirm that certain mitigation measures-such as mandatory wearing of face masks-will continue to exist, not only now, but will likely remain the same for some time to come.

“Measures such as continuing to wear masks are important, not only to provide additional protection to the entire population, but also to provide protection and assurance to those of us who are particularly vulnerable and had to be shielded before.”

MSP was recalled from the summer recess to hear the announcement.

Starting from Monday, up to 8 people from four families will be able to meet at home, and up to 10 people can be accommodated in the public indoor space.

Up to 15 people from 15 families can meet outdoors. Children 12 years of age and below are not counted in the total number of people or family members.

Weddings and funerals will allow 200 guests. The number of other large gatherings will also increase. Starting from Monday, the outdoor seating event can accommodate up to 2,000 people.
