A former teacher of a Catholic high school sexually assaulted a 15-year-old student. After she pleaded guilty of sexual assault, she was sentenced to probation on Friday.
Corissa A. McCalister, 22, from Steubenville, was sentenced to two years of probation and community service. She must also register as a sex offender within 90 days, people Report.
McAllister teaches Spanish at Central Catholic High School in Steubenville, Ohio. In addition, she also coached cross-country and track and field. That was her first year of teaching.
The incident occurred on March 30, when McAllister drove the unnamed male student home from another school’s track and field competition. WTRF Earlier reports cited the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Joe Myers said McAllister parked her car at the Harrison County Fair in Cadiz, Ohio. The woman then had sex with the teenager in her car.
Upon learning of the attack, the teenager’s mother immediately reported it to the school. Principal Thomas Costello notified other staff, Diocese Director Deacon Paul D. Ward and the authorities of this allegation.
McAllister was later taken on administrative leave. She was eventually fired.
She was arrested on April 23 and went to jail on a bail of $100,000. WOTV9 Report.
“I am deeply saddened by the news of these allegations,” Steubenville Bishop Geoffrey Monfton said in a press release at the time. “I pray for the recovery of the victims and their families and the Catholic Central School community.”
After the incident, the parish response team contacted the victim’s family and the school community to provide support.
