The number of new infections is almost double what it was a week ago

DAs Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported 1183 new coronavirus cases in one day. This is an increase of 537 cases from the Tuesday a week ago, when 646 new infections were reported. The 7-day incidence rate continued to rise to 10.9 from 10.3 the day before. This value indicates how many out of every 100,000 residents have been proven to be infected with the coronavirus in the past 7 days.

Berlin (18.0) reported the highest 7-day incidence, followed by Hamburg (14.4) and Hesse (14.3). The lowest values are Saxony-Anhalt (3.2), Saxony (3.5) and Mecklenburg-West Pomerania (3.7).

The other 34 people died from the virus. This increased the reported death toll to 91,397 within 24 hours. To date, more than 3.7 million corona tests have been positive in Germany.

In view of the rapid increase in the number of infections, Frank Ulrich Montgomery, President of World Medicine, warned against opening too soon. Montgomery told the Funke Media Group newspaper that even the small initial steps of the past few weeks will increase the incidence. Currently, the number of infections is doubling every week. “It would be extremely dangerous to simply lift the restrictions on our access and’open up everything’ now,” the doctor said. “If you do this, you risk entering the fourth wave.” On the contrary, Montgomery advocates a gradual and controlled approach.
