She wants to strengthen the media library and change some things in the linear program. In the future, “Spiegel of the World” will no longer be broadcast on Sunday evening, but on Monday evening. The circulation of political magazines will be reduced from 90 to 66 issues per year. Instead, editors should tie their abilities to Erste and the media library to run works under a new, universal label. New talk shows and programs focusing on personality are also on the agenda, and the ARD director and program manager are currently discussing these.
There is no shortage of criticism from those affected. What do you have to say to those who accuse your political magazine and the “World Spiegel” project of causing ARD to “trivialize”?
The situation is just the opposite. We hope to expand political coverage and establish a new focus on “investigative journalism.”
What would be the benefit if the number of political magazine programs were reduced?
Most importantly, we reach everyone, including the younger generation, through research and topics in political magazines, which is part of the essence of our information skills brand. Due to changes in usage behavior, Das Erste alone no longer guarantees this. This is why we now agree for the first time that Das Erste and ARD Mediathek are together. Therefore, we also need the political magazine editorial department to suit the documentary and report of the ARD media library in terms of design and theme setting. Therefore, the challenge facing the editorial department of political magazines is to create specific works for the ARD media library in addition to classic works.
What can or should be run on the broadcast time slot and then will become free?
No, because there are no free slots. Every Tuesday and Thursday at 9:45 pm, the topic of the political magazine editor will be introduced.
Anyway, is the TV slot overrated?
Definitely at least for those who have already taken on-demand quotations for granted, it is those under 50. In classic linear TV, broadcast time slots and reliability still play an important role, but a separate broadcast time slot does not produce any correlation.
