In Montana, as in most other parts of the country, since the beginning of this year, liberal conservatives have gathered more and more frequently in churches, hotel/motel conference rooms and home kitchens. They have been discussing all aspects of the progressive socialism-Marxist agenda, as well as traditional American values, especially the loss of freedom. Everyone at these meetings knows that everything done so far has not effectively prevented or even meaningfully slowed the left’s efforts to move towards an all-powerful central government and its dubious promise of “security” and “equality” for their version— -The same promise that led to the rise of every totalitarian government in modern history. Some new things must be done, and fast.
At one of the meetings, American history buff John Sitz met with Darling Gaube, a prominent leader of the conservative movement in Montana. They acknowledged each other that the conservative movement is too divided on priorities. Although there are requirements for joint action between the conservatives, there is no common direction.They proposed to concentrate all the separated movements under a unified idea-to return the power that was merged into the central government to its rightful place, and Regain freedom The original intention of adopting the U.S. Constitution and the principles of the Declaration of Independence.
They co-authored a document called the Declaration of Consent to the Constitution and created a document called Regain freedom (https://restore-liberty.org/ ). The statement they created does not replace any founding documents, but outlines the original intention of the creators when they wrote these documents: to expose the strictly restricted powers of the federal government and list many violations of the constitution. The contract is the constitution. Finally, it announced that since the limited power of the central government comes entirely from the consent of the people in the sovereign state, any behavior of the federal government outside of the consent is illegal and will not be complied with.
This is not a novel idea. In fact, it was erased from Thomas Jefferson and James Madison’s own statements and the debate about ratification of the Constitution. Many key figures in the founding generation have repeated this point.
For example, Alexander Hamilton (who himself is a loyal supporter of a powerful central government) Federalists 78, “… There is no position that relies on clearer principles, and not every authorized act that violates the purpose of the committee on which it is exercised is invalid. Therefore, any legislative act that violates the Constitution is invalid. To deny this is to affirm that the agent is greater than the principal; the servant is higher than the master; the people’s representative is higher than the people themselves; people who act in power can not only do things that their power does not allow, but also do things that they prohibit. “
In other words, anything the federal government does outside of the powers granted to it is invalid. However, citizens and states declare them invalid and act as if they are indeed invalid. This concept and commitment were the basis for persuading colonial delegations to ratify the constitution. This is the same principle that gave us the Tenth Amendment, as an additional guarantee that all powers not granted to the US government are reserved for the states and people.
Regain freedom Is a non-profit 501(c)(4) organization dedicated to education and advocacy for the re-adoption of this principle. Advocacy means reaching out to local and state leaders, encouraging them to endorse the principle and take action when necessary. Regain freedom Started soliciting signatures on the Declaration of Consent to the Constitution Their website (I hope people will mail the declaration to politicians across the country), established state-level leadership in more than 20 states, and actively contacted many state legislatures, governors, and influential figures in these states. They also held courses on the original intention of the constitution and worked with key data analysts to determine election integrity issues.
Conservatives everywhere should be aware that simply replacing the tramp in Washington with other tramp will not solve the bleak direction of Washington or ours as a country. We need to carefully screen and select constitutional conservatives who are committed to taking action at the grassroots level. As Jefferson declared, the state is “a real obstacle to our freedom in that country.” Regain freedom Aims to change the whole culture and thinking about how to save freedom in this country, using a very old and proven concept to do this.
