About 300 firefighters work hard to extinguish wildfires in northeastern Spain-National


Northeast Firefighter Spain On Sunday, we are fighting a wildfire that has consumed more than 1,200 hectares of woodland.

In a rural area 100 kilometers west of Barcelona that erupted on Saturday night, high temperatures and strong winds fueled the flames.

Approximately 300 firefighters, including members of the military emergency team, extinguished the fire that spewed large amounts of smoke into the sky, trying to prevent it from entering the inhabited area. Just in case, 28 children and 14 camp counselors were evacuated from a nearby summer camp.

Joan Ignasi Elena, the regional director of internal affairs, said that the work has become complicated due to the hilly terrain restricting the entry of ground forces. Airplanes and helicopters ran to the burning hills to dump water.

The authorities asked farmers in the area to clean up crops that could cause fires.

“We are at a critical moment,” said Pere Aragones, chairman of the Catalonia region. “We must avoid any dangerous behavior that might force us to transfer resources to other emergencies.”
