I am impressed Aqara products I have got Recent reviewThe Zigbee-based system is very suitable for anyone looking for an affordable way to set up a smart home.
Although Zigbee is a great smart home protocol, there is a new child named Thread in this block, which is supported by the Zigbee Alliance.
The development of Thread has been going on for many years, and it is basically supported by every big player in the game. In addition to Zigbee, this includes ARM, Google Nest, OSRAM, Samsung, Somfy, Qualcomm, Yale, and even Apple. Many of these companies are already part of the Zigbee Alliance.
Due to its IP addressable feature, Thread should be able to solve some of the weaknesses of Zigbee, which will make it easier for devices to connect to the Internet. Zigbee and Thread should be able to work in harmony with each other, so it makes sense for Aqara to launch two Thread hardware and update its hub to support Thread.
As the beginning of this new product line, Aqara will release a new version of its iconic door and window sensors and motion sensors with built-in thread technology in the second half of 2022.
Aqara announced its commitment to Matter in September 2021. We will provide Matter support for existing Zigbee-based products by pushing OTA updates to Aqara hubs, M2 and M1S.

Aqara announces thread-based product lineup, emphasizing its commitment to material adoption
Smart home product supplier Aqara today announced plans to launch a series of new devices based on Thread. Thread is an IP-based low-power wireless network protocol for smart homes and enterprises. As the beginning of this new product line, the company expects to release new versions of its iconic door and window sensors and motion sensors with built-in Thread technology in the second half of 2022. Aqara’s new Thread products are designed to provide consumers with an improved connected home experience with greater compatibility, reliability, energy efficiency and safety.
Aqara has been providing a series of innovative home automation products that work with major third-party ecosystems such as Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa and Google Home. As the industry continues to move towards a unified IoT standard, Aqara will continue to support the interoperability of smart homes. In September 2021, Aqara announced its commitment to Matter, a new industry standard for smart home devices developed and led by some of the largest technology companies.
As part of its commitment, Aqara will provide Matter support for its existing Zigbee-based products by pushing over-the-air (OTA) updates to Aqara hubs, M2 and M1S*. The software update will expose Aqara sub-devices to Matter, allowing them to connect with other Matter-compatible third-party devices. This approach ensures seamless interaction between the two protocols, and Aqara users will be able to reap the benefits of Matter while retaining their existing Zigbee equipment.
Aqara’s new Thread-based product lineup provides users with another option to enter the Matter ecosystem. As one of Matter’s backbone connection technologies, Thread enables IoT devices to connect locally to Matter. Aqara Thread products also integrate low-power Bluetooth for a better connection and operating experience.
In addition, Aqara Thread devices will still have some of the same and most popular features in the Zigbee product line, such as long battery life and low-latency connections, and will also pass through Thread’s mesh network and “self-healing” capabilities.
As a partner of NXP Semiconductors, Aqara will showcase some of its latest thread-based sensors at the NXP demo booth during CES 2022.
