Sharing is caring!

Today, Aqara has added another Zigbee center to their product lineup, which is available on Amazon US, Canada, and France. It should arrive in the UK in the next few weeks.

Buy from Amazon:

The new camera is a 2K pan-tilt camera with local facial and gesture recognition. It has a built-in Zigbee 3.0 hub and can connect up to 128 Aqara accessories.

Although Zigbee hub functions are the same as other hubs I reviewed, including Aqara Camera Hub G2HThis has the added benefit of integrating facial recognition with home automation functions.

Thanks to the powerful processor equipped with NPU, Aqara Camera Hub G3 supports facial recognition and gesture recognition, both of which can be used to trigger home automation. Users can configure to receive push notifications when their young children go home or detect strangers (ie, no familiar faces are detected), or stop video recording when the faces of family members or preset gestures are recognized. Features that support artificial intelligence will make homes safer and make people’s lives easier, because users can now trigger home automation with certain gestures or just recognizing faces.

The G3 camera hub also supports automatic cruise, face tracking, and pet tracking, all of which are achieved by a 110° wide-angle lens and a pan and tilt motor that provides a rotation angle of up to 340°. The pan and tilt motors can be manually controlled via preset cruise paths or home automation (for example, turning to the front door when the door and window sensors are triggered). Combining high-resolution 2304×1296 pixel sensor and 940 nm LED-enabled infrared night vision, invisible at night, G3 360 degrees day and night without blind spots to protect the home.

Compared with the previous G2H Camera Hub, the new G3 provides other advanced features, including:

  • Broader compatibility with third-party platforms: As a camera, it not only supports HomeKit secure video, but also supports streaming to Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant smart displays. As a hub, it allows connected sub-devices to support a wide range of third-party ecosystems and voice assistants, such as HomeKit, Alexa , Google Home, IFTTT, etc.;
  • Local infrared control: Built-in IR controller allows G3 to automate infrared compatible devices, and IR automation is local, which means it can still work normally without internet connection;
  • Dual-band Wi-Fi support: Support both 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi networks;
  • privacy protection: Equipped with a privacy shutter, which physically covers the camera lens, and can activate the shutter manually and automatically;
  • Type-C port with video output: It uses a modern universal connector and supports low-latency, high-definition video output through the UVC protocol.
