DOn Wednesday night, Greek police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse anti-vaccine activists’ demonstrations in front of the Greek Parliament in Athens. State radio and on-site reporters reported that about 3,000 demonstrators, including many religious fanatics, protested against the new coronavirus measures, which increased the pressure on those who refused to get vaccinated. The police stated that the security forces were deployed because many demonstrators were too close to the parliament.
The conservative government has mandated in accordance with the law that only people who have been vaccinated can stay in restaurants and cultural venues. In the restaurant, customers are only allowed to sit down and no longer dance together. Employees in the health sector and aged care sector must also be vaccinated in the future, otherwise they may be fired, and—as long as they are not vaccinated—will not be paid.
Since the beginning of July, the number of new infections in Greece has soared after extensive relaxation. Corona experts first regard nightlife and partying young people as the reason. On jet planes in Mykonos, it is prohibited to leave the country at night between 1:00 and 6:00 in the morning for a period of four days.
