what is it?
First, let me explain that this is funded through a Kickstarter campaign. Therefore, you must be willing to accept the risk of staking for projects that have not yet been produced. That being said, the event reached its goal of $19,313 in 10 minutes, and at the time of writing this article, it had more than $80,000 in funding. I had to change this number three times while writing! When I was typing, I personally saw the amount of funds increased by more than nine thousand dollars.
The Atowak Ettore Drift watch is an automatic movement mechanical watch with a display of walking hours. Automatic watches do not require batteries, because the movement of the wrist causes the weight inside the watch to rotate, thus winding the mechanism. The hovering hour display means that there are no traditional clock hands. This specialized four-arm movement has four three-arm wheels. One hour is printed on each arm, as shown below:

- 2-6-10
- 3-7-11
- 4-8-12
When each arm rotates into the view, the single wheel arm with the current hour rotates so it appears in the display. When it rotates out of the field of view, the next arm rotates into the field of view, so the current hour is always visible in the display window.
What’s in the box?
Inside the box is…a box. Quite beautiful box, all covered with stitched leather.

There is no manual of any kind, not to set this Watch It is rocket science. I think that is because this is a pre-production model.

Design and features
The Atowak Ettore Drift watch is not for the faint-hearted-it is big and thick. This is not “exquisite” as you call it. But it shouldn’t be—it’s all about being inspired by race, and it does have that appearance.
In the photo above, the time shown is 2:12. In about half an hour, two different hour hands will appear on the display. Ignore the one that is not aligned with the minute display. Then, read the hour of the hand aligned with the minute display, and read the minute at the end of the hour hand.
This is a close observation after a few minutes.
Note that the crown and stem—the things you use to set the time and wind the watch when it is stopped—appear on the left side of the watch. This is the opposite of most watches. If you do need to wind the watch manually, the device is designed so that when you turn the watch and use your right hand, the watch will wind in the typical direction. Considering the way it is configured, I think this will be a good watch for left-handers.
There is a color highlight on the crown that matches the color scheme of the watch.
This is a close observation of the hovering hour hand. If you look closely, you can see that the current arm (2) also contains 6 & 10. The forearm (1) also contains 5 & 9. The hour and minute numbers, as well as the track tracking around the ATOWAK name, are coated with Swiss Super-LumiNova, which glows when exposed to light.
The Atowak Ettore Drift watch is built into a display case, which means that the movement can be seen through the back of the case. You can also see the tool-less spring lever release of the strap-very nice touch.
Looking closely at the movement, we can see the rotating weight that powers the movement and the synthetic ruby that makes up the 24 jewel movement. The weight and bezel are engraved with the Atowak logo.
The strap is beautiful, heavy Italian leather. The Atowak logo is embossed on the inside.
There are two rings at the end of the buckle-one to connect and one to slide. The buckle itself is engraved with a logo. In addition to Atowak’s name, there are four signs on the watch. Overkill? Maybe.
The Atowak Ettore Drift watch will be launched in five different colors.
I received the dark green model. They stated that each of the five colors will be limited to 500 pieces, and each watch will be individually numbered. I searched and I couldn’t find any serial number on the watch they sent me. This further confirms that this is a pre-production unit.

Set up
The setting involves pulling out the crown and turning the steps until the time is correct. Then, push in the crown and wind the watch to start the movement. Once running, daily wear should keep the watch running continuously.
which performed
As big and bulky as the Atowak Ettore Drift watch, it is surprisingly comfortable to wear. It keeps accurate time, which is what the watch should do. Another thing is that if there is no second hand, there will be no visible indicator that the watch is running unless you look inside the back case window of the mainspring. Nevertheless, the hovering hour arm is still hovering, and time continues to move forward.
Looking closely at the hour markers, they look sloppy. When I check the minute mark, this trend continues.
Those spots on the right side of 10 and 15 and the spots on 2 out of 20 are inside the case, not reflections or dust on the top of the crystal. Also, since this watch is not numbered, I think it is pre-production, and I hope the production version looks better. I also want to see more contrast in the hour markers. This will make them easier to read.
The glowing function is actually a bit cool.
Not only the time will shine, but it is said that the tracking function inspired by the track and Bugatti grill will also shine. It looks really cool at night. I did notice that the two 00, 60 and 20 at the bottom did not light up. Apart from more pre-production quality control issues, I don’t know what to do.

- The quality is a bit lacking, probably because this is a sample, not a production watch
- Better hour mark contrast
Final thoughts
Atowak also released another watch, Ettore Lite and the same Kickstarter campaign. Since I don’t have that sample, I will let you view these samples when you visit the event.
Dark green is my fifth choice among the five colors, but the reviewer got what the review got, and the color grew a bit for me. Nevertheless, there are five colors to choose from, which can satisfy almost everyone’s taste.
If you are looking for a personal timepiece, then Ettore Drift is definitely worth considering. If you are a watch lover and a racing fanatic, this will become a more attractive choice.
If I have any concerns, they will:
- The inherent risks of Kickstarter campaigns-but most of them are well done, which looks very good
- The quality of the hypothetical pre-production unit they delivered for review
