  • Australia cancelled the visa of far-right British commentator Katie Hopkins.
  • Hopkins posted a video on Instagram about her opening the door to the workers who delivered food to her hotel room naked and without a mask.
  • Approximately 12 million Australians are currently in lockdown to contain the outbreak of the highly contagious Delta variant.

A senior official said on Monday that Australia had cancelled the visa of far-right British commentator Katie Hopkins after she boasted of ignoring the country’s strict hotel quarantine regulations.

According to local media reports, Hopkins flew to Sydney to participate in a reality show when she posted a video on Instagram saying that she was naked and without a mask opening the door to the workers who delivered food to her hotel room.

According to regulations aimed at preventing the spread of Covid-19, most international travelers arriving in Australia must be quarantined in hotels for 14 days.

Interior Minister Karen Andrews said that after the video appeared, the Australian border agency “acted quickly to ensure that her entry visa was cancelled”.

“We will arrange for her to leave this country as soon as possible,” Andrews told public broadcaster ABC.

“She is obviously not the one we want to stay in this country for one more second.”

Hopkins has long been controversial for expressing racist, anti-Islamic, and anti-immigration views, and has often publicly opposed coronavirus measures such as lockdowns.

Andrews said Hopkins obtained the visa with the support of the state government on the grounds that it might bring economic benefits to the country.

Andrews said: “The fact that she brags about violating the quarantine rules outside is shocking.”

“For all Australians who are currently under lockdown, this is a slap in the face and it is unacceptable behavior. So, personally, I am very happy that she will leave.”

Approximately 12 million Australians are currently in lockdown to contain the outbreak of the highly contagious Delta variant.

Canberra has also restricted the number of people entering the country, causing tens of thousands of Australians to stay overseas.
