As Americans continue to argue over dwindling civil rights, our colleagues in Australia are launching a fierce attack on the abyss of totalitarianism.
Americans usually think Australians are good. They have a combative history, they are disrespectful, and we love their actors. We seem to be attracted by a unique spirit, which we often mistake for individualism.
This is not the case at all. This is humorous and playful (something we like), but Australia is still a Commonwealth country. They have a very European sensibility. Although Europe made heroic efforts in World War II, the Europeans have never escaped the temptation of socialism.
In Australia, in the face of the new crown virus, the surface comfort of socialism has evolved into terrible totalitarianism. In a country with a population of more than 25 million, the government has announced that they will not be satisfied with anything other than zero COVID cases.
In order to calm the desire to socialize, the Governor of Victoria announced that citizens are not allowed to take off their masks in public even if they drink beverages.

Policemen? Somehow, it doesn’t seem comforting anymore that law enforcement officers will “escort” your child to the compulsory medical procedure.
Imagine that the US military knocks on your door and escorts your child out for treatment. You may not believe it, and they may not need it at all.
It’s shocking that someone as proud as an Australian would succumb to totalitarianism so willingly. To say it is disappointing is an understatement.
It is doubtful whether the current state of the American spirit is ready to resist any similar invasion by our own government.
