Baden-Württemberg is preparing to restrict people who have not been vaccinated

DThe Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Health hopes to prevent hospitals from accommodating more than 600 Covid-19 intensive care patients during the fourth wave of pandemics that may emerge. The reason is that in the first three waves of pandemics, the capacity of university clinics and hospitals has been exhausted, so that relocation to other federal states can be avoided. “Taking care of 600 intensive care patients is a huge effort. We cannot expect the clinic to do this again. The problem now is to control the infection process and prevent the unvaccinated people from having an excessive fourth wave,” Baden-Württemberg State Department of Health (FAZ) Minister Uwe Lahl (Uwe Lahl) said.In the first three waves of the pandemic, the country’s hospitals had approximately 600 patients at the same time at the wedding ICU Supply and ventilation.

In mid-September and the beginning of school, when many people returning from travel are contributing to the spread of the virus, the Ministry of Health predicts that the number of COVID-19 intensive care patients will increase sharply again. According to current forecasts, 350 coronavirus patients may need ventilators by then. This will mean that the capacity of the hospital will be exhausted, because due to layoffs, high staff turnover and the disbandment of the intensive care team, the current intensive care capacity of the largest nursing hospitals and university clinics is significantly lower than in the early stage of the epidemic.

Motivation of caregivers

In addition, the enthusiasm of intensive care nurses is also problematic: some of the intensive care patients now deliberately refuse to be vaccinated, which makes the morale of the staff in the intensive care unit low. Due to this situation, the Baden-Württemberg state government is currently drafting a new crown virus law, which provides further restrictions on people who have not been vaccinated, such as banning restaurants or even going out. The regulations will only come into effect if the number of newly infected people continues to soar and the intensive care unit is likely to be overloaded again.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Social Affairs said that the key to epidemic management is the trend in the number of ICU patients, not the hospitalization rate. This is also because the reporting channels for admitted Covid-19 patients are still insufficient, but the DIVI register is now reliable and beneficial for intensive care patients. In principle, the new rules may contain 2-G rules similar to Hamburg, which will only take effect when the pandemic worsens. About 100 Covid-19 patients are currently being treated in the intensive care unit of the Baden-Württemberg Hospital, and most of them are not vaccinated.

As the largest sponsor of nursing homes in the southwest, the Stuttgart Evangelical Home Foundation complained that residents who have been vaccinated twice are increasingly experiencing vaccination breakthroughs and deaths. Therefore, Bernhard Schneider, the managing director of the foundation, now calls for mandatory vaccination for the nursing profession. “I’m pretty sure,” Schneider said, “those employees who have not yet decided to vaccinate will not change their minds in the next few weeks. This is why the legislature must now ensure that people are imposed.” In society, “the weakest “The well-being and health” must be the decisive measure.
