The Taliban’s acquisition of weapons has caused Joe Biden to receive a lot of criticism-more weapons have not been destroyed or prevented from falling into the enemy’s hands.
Therefore, the Biden administration’s request for federal agencies to clean up its website about the US$82.9 billion worth of weapons and equipment (now mainly in the hands of the Taliban) provided by the United States to the Afghan army since 2001 is a bit disturbing.
The cleaned-up audits and reports included detailed descriptions of the items provided by the United States to the Afghan army, including night vision equipment, grenades, Black Hawk helicopters, and armored vehicles.
The report further quantified 208 aircraft and helicopters; 75,000 combat vehicles-including 22 Hummers, 50,000 tactical vehicles, and nearly 1,000 mine protection vehicles; and 600,000 weapons-including 350,000 M4 and M16 rifles and 60,000 machine guns And 25,000 grenade launchers.
The State Department admitted that it had deleted these reports, but believed that the move was to protect Afghan allies. According to a spokesperson:
“The safety of our Afghan contacts is of paramount importance to us. The State Department recommends other federal agencies [sic] Review their online assets to find content that emphasizes cooperation/participation between Afghan citizens and the U.S. government or U.S. government partners, and remove them from public view if there is a security risk. “
Oh please.
First, you left thousands of “contacts”, burned them completely, and left them to the Taliban.
You also provided the Taliban with a list of Afghan allies, allegedly to help them clear the Taliban checkpoints. This is a very stupid move that puts their lives in danger.
After the disaster you left for the poor, don’t even try to go there now.
In addition, many of the deleted audit reports only quantified military equipment without identifying personnel. Here are two important examples:
#1. Government Accountability Office (GAO): OpenTheBooks.com re-published its audit of military equipment provided by the United States in Afghanistan (August 2017) after it was removed from its official location.
#2. Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR): OpenTheBooks.com reissued a $174 million audit of the missing ScanEagle drone (July 2020) after reporting its removal from its official location.
As Forbes explained, “These reports do not include recipient information, and the Taliban may have controlled the relevant war fund.”
So this is basically an excuse for what happened here-it seems to cover up how much chaos this has caused us. Therefore, the Biden administration not only lied directly to what is happening in Afghanistan, they are also working hard to clean up the records.
