Brazilians were amazed at seeing snow for the first time in their lives. The rare low temperature hit the country and caused coffee prices to rise.
As a polar air mass moved towards the subtropical central and southern part of the country, covering the streets, the snow fell on Thursday night for the first time in 64 years.

According to the weather company Somar Meteorologia, more than 40 cities have found themselves facing ice and snow, and at least 33 cities have experienced snow.
In Rio Grande do Sul, snow has threatened agriculture, and coffee, sugar cane and orange crops may all be at risk.
After Brazil suffered an unusual cold snap, coffee and sugar prices around the world have risen.

For some Brazilians, the novelty is an exciting opportunity to take pictures and build a snowman, and some have expressed their doubts on social media.
“I am 62 years old and I have never seen snow, do you know? Seeing the beauty of nature is indescribable,” Iodor Goncalves Marques, a truck driver in Cambala, Rio Grande do Sul, said in an interview with Universal Television.

Brazilians prepare for the coldest day of the year on Friday, with cold temperatures across the country and wind speeds of up to 80 km/h (49 mph).
“It’s worth it. Actually, because of the excitement of the snow, you can hardly feel the cold. Great, great!” Brazilian Joselaine da Silva Marques told Universal Television while enjoying the snow in South Campbala.
