- Boris Johnson does not need to self-quarantine, even if one of his employees tested positive for the coronavirus during a recent trip to Scotland.
- Johnson visited a police academy in Fife on Wednesday and a wind farm near Aberdeenshire on Thursday.
- Last month, both Johnson and Treasury Secretary Rishi Sunak conducted self-isolation in accordance with state guidelines.
The Downing Street office of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that although one of his staff members recently traveled to Scotland, one of his staff tested positive for the coronavirus, but he did not need to self-isolate.
Johnson visited a police academy in Fife on Wednesday and a wind farm near Aberdeenshire on Thursday.
Local media reported that a staff member of Johnson accompanied him to the police academy and traveled by air. He tested positive for the coronavirus.
A Downing Street spokesperson said: “The Prime Minister regularly visits communities across the UK, and all aspects of the visit are conducted in accordance with Covid’s guidance.”
“The Prime Minister did not have close contact with anyone who tested positive.”
Last month, both Johnson and Treasury Secretary Rishi Sunak self-quarantined in accordance with state guidance, abandoned a heavily criticized plan, and participated in a pilot program that allowed them to continue working.
Anneliese Dodds, chairman of the opposition Labour Party, said: “It is clear that the prime minister has not learned anything from what happened the last time he tried to fabricate a reason to go beyond the rules that everyone else must follow.”
“The high-level Conservative Party really treats the public as fools. This is another example of their rules, as do other people’s rules.”
