According to reports, a woman from Omsk, Russia sued McDonald’s because an advertisement showed that their cheeseburgers and chicken nuggets caused her to break the fast during Lent.

Orthodox Christian Ksenia Ovchinnikova said that during the six weeks before Easter in 2019, she tried to stay away from meat and other animal products. Fox News reports.

Lent is a strict period during which many devout Christians should sacrifice meat, poultry, eggs and dairy products throughout the season.

Ovchinnikov told Russian official media When the tempting McDonald’s ad made her surrender, she did not eat meat for a month.

She said in the statement: “When I saw an advertising banner, I couldn’t help but go to McDonald’s and bought a cheeseburger.”

According to media reports, Ovchinnikov accused the fast-food restaurant of violating the Consumer Protection Law and insulting her religious feelings. She sued McDonald’s for $14 (1,000 rubles) as compensation for continued mental damage.

McDonald’s did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.

Ovchinnikov said in the lawsuit: “In McDonald’s behavior, I have seen violations of the Consumer Protection Law. I ask the court to investigate. If a violation occurs, McDonald’s LLC is obliged to compensate me in the lawsuit. Mental loss in China. A thousand rubles.”

This is not the first time McDonald’s has encountered an advertising-related lawsuit.In May of this year, the fast food chain was sued by two departments of Allen Media Group, accusing it of racism.

The complaint alleges that McDonald’s refused to advertise on the Entertainment Studio Network or Weather Channel due to racial stereotypes.
