Chronic Disease and Mental Health |

A mental health day is an opportunity to take care of our emotional and physical needs and to take a break from the stress of life. So important these days when you have a chronic disease!

It can be helpful to think of stress as being in a bucket, and there are various ways to get rid of it. When our bucket is too full, we need to make a concerted effort to remove some stress and take care of our mental health before we suffer the consequences. It is also important to maintain balance.

We experience a variety of emotions throughout our lives and even throughout the day. It’s important to understand that there are no “bad” emotions. They all serve our lives. The challenge is when certain emotions become unbalanced; they happen too often or too intensely in uncontrollable moments, and it happens more often when our stress bucket is too full.

We often think of emotional and mental health as separate from physical health, but they are closely linked. Therefore, meeting physical health needs also improves mental health.

For example, lack of exercise, an unhealthy diet, and poor sleep not only affect our bodies, but also drain our energy. These key pillars of health also provide the foundation for our mental health.

Participation in physical activity as well as enjoyable activities has been found to be an effective stand-alone therapy for depression. We also know that improving sleep quantity and quality can reduce restlessness, depression, and anxiety. Both physical activity and good sleep are difficult for chronic diseases, and each needs to be addressed.

Your doctor can help you with physical therapy and find ways to help you get restful sleep, but you won’t get help if you don’t ask that you need to advocate for your health Advocate for your own health So you don’t end up having a mental breakdown.

Neurasthenia is not a medical term, nor does it denote a specific mental illness. But that doesn’t mean this is a normal or healthy response to stress. What some people call a mental breakdown may indicate an underlying mental health problem that needs attention, such as depression or anxiety.

Signs of so-called neurasthenia vary from person to person, depending on the underlying cause. Exactly what constitutes a nervous breakdown also varies from one culture to another. Usually, it is understood that a person is no longer able to function properly. For example, a struggling person may:

  • Calling in sick to work for a few days or more
  • Avoid social events and missed appointments
  • Difficulty following a healthy diet, sleep, and
  • Many other unusual or dysfunctional behaviors may be considered signs and symptoms of neurasthenia.

Living with a chronic disease is hard enough, maintaining mental health is very hard, but our mental health affects our physical health too! Sometimes those with chronic conditions, not all of them, but doctors try to use mental health to explain why it’s so hard to cure. Many times I was told “it’s in your head” until I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, multiple sclerosis, and early-onset rheumatoid arthritis. “Well, we’re still worried about you, you seem to be in pain.” So I’m very experienced with mental health in healthcare and make sure I’m educated to show that I really care enough about myself and be able to talk to my doctor.

There are many steps we can take to manage our emotions and keep them in balance. However, when we find that self-care alone is not enough or becomes too difficult to do alone, especially when our relationships, work, school or other responsibilities are affected, it can be a sign to seek professional help.

I know personal struggles with chronic illnesses and the last thing I want to do is go to the doctor for help, but when it comes to my mental health…I always take care of it!

My articles are about life experiences, education and being a life care counselor, I want you to make sure you understand that your mental health is important because your body and depression is a real disease that needs someone qualified to treat it , because not all depression requires medication, as medication changes the chemistry in your body and can have many side effects!
