Today is Earth Overload Day. what does that mean?
From January 1st to July 29th, human beings consumed the earth’s nature which can be regenerated throughout the year. This is accounting. Like money, do we want to know how much we took and how much we spent?
Why is Earth Overload Day a problem in the middle of the year?
The biggest limiting factor for mankind is the earth’s ability to regenerate. Here too, it is like dealing with money: overuse is effective for a period of time, but it weakens us.Its signs climate change, Deforestation, loss of biodiversity or shortage of food and water resources. These are all symptoms of the real problem: overshoot. This is mainly an economic problem.
In what way?
All economic activities depend on the regeneration ability of the earth. The Earth Overload Day shows that fewer and fewer countries have secured their resources. This means that we are weakening the system. It’s like a pyramid scheme: we use the future to pay for the present. Most countries prohibit economic MLM, but ecological MLM is even bigger.
Does Earth Overload Day only consider renewable raw materials?
We look at all resources from the perspective of regenerative capacity. This means that oil, natural gas, and coal are more restricted than underground reserves: if we don’t want severe climate change, we cannot burn more carbon dioxide than the biosphere can absorb. Whether it is minerals, fossil energy, ores, wood, potatoes, or stones, we will ask: How much regeneration capacity do we give up in order to use these materials? Therefore, the regenerative capacity of the ecosystem has become the reference currency for our resource accounting. Because the regenerative ability is the eye of the needle.
Specifically, what does rebirth mean?
If we need more than regeneration, ecological debt will accumulate. For example, if we use more groundwater than supplemented groundwater, if we cut down trees faster than they grow back, or if we fill the atmosphere with carbon dioxide faster than they decompose again.
If everyone in the world lived like Germany, how many earths would we need this year?
If everyone lived like a German, consumption would be three times the capacity of the earth. The entire human race currently needs 1.7 earths to consume. If we want to maintain 85% of biodiversity, we can only use half of the earth’s capacity each year.
What are you paying particular attention to this year?
We are in a “super year” and should have held the biodiversity conference, the UN climate conference and the sustainable development goals last year. This is why we proposed the “100-day possibility”.Similar to the Advent calendar, we are here every day Climate Conference Another possibility will be shown in Glasgow from October 31st to postpone the Earth Overload Day. These suggestions will also be financially beneficial. My question is: why is this not considered an advantage? Why companies, cities, and countries don’t include resource security in their competitive strategies, even though we actually know so much about the future, it surprises us. Because of this they cut their own flesh. In fact, the future has never been as clear as it is today. The technical possibility exists, and it is economically advantageous-what is holding us back?
