Construction of Frankfurt Jewish Academy starts

MeterThe Prime Minister of Hessen held a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony Walker Buffier (CDU), Marcus Kerber, State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of the Interior, and other politicians and Joseph Schuster, chairman of the German Jewish Central Committee, celebrated the construction of the Jewish Academy. On Thursday, nearly 100 guests from the political, scientific and cultural circles gathered in Senckenberganlage to participate in the ceremony.

Said in his greeting Shuster, The college is connected with the cultural heritage of Frankfurt. The city was mainly shaped by Jewish citizens and is still one of the most important Jewish cities in Germany. The new college will open a window for dialogue between religion, culture and politics. She brought Jewish views into the debate and was influenced by the spirit and curiosity of the Jewish school. “Shake complacency, that is the task of the academy.”

In their greetings, Buffier and Kerber talked about a happy day, but also warned that anti-Semitism is growing. Kerber said that Germany will return to normal only when activities such as ceremonies do not have to be protected by a hundred police. The builder of the Jewish Academy was the Central Committee, which became the first such cross-regional Jewish institution after the Holocaust. The building was designed by Frankfurt architect Zvonko Turkali; the project will cost 34.5 million euros and will be undertaken by the federal, state, municipal and central committees. In 2024, the Jewish Academy will begin work under the guidance of Sabena Donath and Doron Kiesel.
