As the United States withdrew its last troops from Afghanistan, the Taliban quickly entered and surpassed the government. After fighting with the Afghans for 20 years and training them how to strengthen their ability to defend the government from the Taliban, Afghanistan surrendered to the Taliban without resistance. There are numerous criticisms of Biden and intelligence agencies for better predicting the rate of government downfall. However, 70% of Americans support ending the war. The generals stepped forward to support Biden’s decision, saying that the original goal of killing Osama bin Laden and preventing more terrorist attacks on the United States had been achieved a year ago. They agree with Biden that participating in the nation-building of other countries is not the goal of the United States.
Biden claimed that 300,000 Afghan troops received good training from the US military and provided high-level ammunition sufficient for self-defense when the United States withdrew from Afghanistan. He said that the Afghan government immediately surrendered to the Taliban, showing that Afghanistan is not willing to do so although it is prepared for self-defense. He said that staying longer in the United States will never change this reality. The President said that the United States has spent more than $1 trillion in the past 20 years to help Afghanistan get rid of Taliban rule. However, he assured the American people that he would not leave this war to another president. Despite the strong opposition from Republicans, Democrats and the media, Biden stated that he is a political blow for the best interests of the United States.
Trump is criticizing Biden’s actions and focusing on his plan to maintain the US embassy in Kabul. His arrogance wanted a picture of the American flag flying over a building in that part of the world. However, he ignored the fact that our ambassador would become the target of the Taliban once the troops were fully withdrawn. He naively imagined that Americans would be allowed to successfully roam the streets of Kabul and cooperate with frightened Afghans to obtain information about the Taliban.
During his tenure, Trump and Secretary of State Pompeo and other members of his government met with the Taliban. No members of the Afghan government were present. As we learned over and over again during his tenure, in order to satisfy his conceit, Trump dealt with dictators, dictators, and enemies of the United States whenever he had the opportunity. He even talked publicly about inviting Taliban leaders to Camp David. Fortunately, there are some sane patriots left in his government who persuaded him to give up that crazy and inappropriate idea.
People have to wonder what Trump promised the Taliban at the meeting and whether a deal affected the rapid and bold takeover of Afghanistan they reached with them. The legitimately defeated former president is an accuser, complainer, liar, and terrible trader. He failed to end the war because his weak ego could not bear criticism. Fortunately, Biden has a strong character to keep his promise and put the United States first, instead of using an “America First” T-shirt instead of taking action.
