Review – If you have ever wanted to use artwork or even just your initials to customize your crafts or objects, you may have considered buying an engraving machine. Today I want to show you a miniature engraving machine, which is portable enough to fit in your backpack.

What is it?

Dewallie Mini portable laser engraving machine is a portable machine that can laser engrave graphics and images on wood, paper, leather, cork and other materials.

Unsupported materials: glass, metal, reflective materials, transparent materials.

What’s in the box?

  • Laser engraving machine bracket
  • Laser engraving machine
  • USB-C power cord
  • USB power adapter
  • protective glasses
  • ruler
  • User manual

It also includes various materials used for carving, such as cardboard, cork, and wood.

Design and features

The engraving machine is basically two pieces. There is a base that can be folded for transportation/storage, and a cube-shaped engraving machine.

The weight of the base is good, so it can rest firmly on a flat surface.

The engraving machine can be easily snapped into the bracket unfolded from the base.

There is a USB-C connector on the top of the engraving machine, which is used to connect the USB-C power cord. There is also a status LED next to the connector. There is also a button on the top of the engraving machine. You might guess that this is a power button, but it is just a stop button. The engraving machine does not have a power button. To disconnect the power, you need to unplug the USB-C cable.

The bracket of the engraving machine extends from the base so that the engraving machine is 20 cm above the working surface. The Dewallie mini portable laser engraver comes with a ruler so you can be sure to set the height accordingly.

After the engraving machine is powered on, a light spot will shine on the work surface/material, and the center of the engraving can be easily seen.

application

Engraving is done through an application that you can install on your iPhone or Android phone. The app will allow you to use images from the camera roll, built-in graphics library, or you can even draw something and sculpt it.

The application is easy to use. Just select the artwork you want to engrave, choose whether you want it to be contour, gray, etc. Then specify the material to be engraved, the power intensity, the depth and the number of engraving materials.

You can preview the size of the engraving by pressing the preview button (see the video below which shows this process).

My first attempt was compass.

Hmm…Where is it?

Well, I think I didn’t pay attention to the size setting! Let’s increase it from 10 mm to 100 mm!

Okay, that’s much better!

OK! …. And smelly. Wow… one thing to keep in mind is that this is a laser engraver, which means it burns the material to create the engraving. Therefore, when using this device, make sure you are in a well-ventilated area.

Let’s try something more customized…

Love the Gadgeteer logo! I used the logo you see in the upper left corner of the webpage you are currently reading, and the application’s software converts it to black and white graphics. OK.

I decided to use round cork material to make my own coaster.

The result is great! Check out the video below showing the Dewallie mini portable laser engraving machine.

See it in action

what do I like

  • Easy to use
  • portable
  • Clear and detailed engraving

What will i change

Final thoughts

The Dewallie mini portable laser engraving machine will not win any awards for speed or print size, as long as you realize that it will not engrave metal, glass or stone, it is a perfect small engraving machine for crafts and simple small projects. It is also fun and easy to use.
