article – I recently read a news story about a drone delivery happening near me, right in the DFW area (see Fox4 News Video Clip)!
company wing (A subsidiary of Google’s parent company Alphabet) is offering a selection of health and wellness products to Walgreens in Little Elm, within 4 miles of the store. Blue Bell is delivering ice cream to people within four miles of its factory in Frisco. Texas Health and EasyVetClinic are also working with Wing.
People who live in small places like Little Elm and Frisco can download “Wing – Drone Delivery” Android application or iOS app. The app allows you to share your location or enter your address to find out if they deliver there, and to check if there are open areas around your home for delivery. After that, I think the app will let you view the participating available businesses and then order a select item from one of those businesses to have it delivered to your home.
There are other drone delivery companies making deliveries elsewhere. Wing delivers in the following regions Virginia Flytrex provides services in the following areas North Carolinato name a few.
What excites me most is that drones can and are being used to deliver medical supplies to hard-to-reach areas. Zipline is Japan’s Goto Islands and ivory coastand the COVID-19 vaccine Ghana. In Ghana, Zipline is “serving more than 15 million people from six distribution centers…[and] In addition to blood products and other essential medicines, it has flown 13 million miles and delivered more than 5 million doses of vaccines. ” Another benefit of using drones for delivery? A huge drop in carbon emissions!
I’m not sure if drones will be widely used to deliver goods to the average consumer, but delivering medical supplies to hard-to-reach areas seems promising – improving the health of our world and the world’s population! Astonishing!
