Review- Considering the popularity of “gaming chairs” or “racing chairs” these days, most of you are probably familiar with them. At some point, you cannot watch streaming games without seeing a compelling chair, but in my experience, appearance does not always equal comfort. Over the years, I have tried many different office chairs. I can’t count them, but when I switched to remote full-time work about ten years ago, I immediately found an office chair that was “comfortable enough” for several hours every day. More than 8 hours can become a torture rack. Price does not always equal comfort. I have some chairs that cost more than US$500, but they are more comfortable than the high-back IKEA office chair that costs US$200. My ideal office chair needs to be comfortable enough for long hours of work or playing games. It would be great if it can keep my back and back from sweating. I prefer high-back office chairs, which require lumbar support, otherwise my spine will be injured at the end of the day. The DXRacer Air Breathable Mesh Gaming Chair seems to meet most of my requirements, so I am happy to give it a try. After weeks of continuous use (sometimes more than 12 hours a day), I can confidently say that this is a great chair for many people, but maybe not everyone. The comfort of the chair seems to be very subjective, and there are several things that limit the body shape and size to make the model feel comfortable.

What is it?

DXRacer breathable mesh gaming chair is a chair. It has wheels that can slide on hard floors (if you are on a carpet, you need a hard pad or a different wheel). This is a chair with shoulder and hip support, similar to a sports car seat (hence the nickname “racing driver”). DXRacer adopts a new high-durability mesh design for the seat and backrest to provide better airflow and comfort.

Installation and setup

Installation is very simple and the accompanying manual is easy to follow. After simply pushing the caster into the base, turn it over and install plastic decorative strips on each spoke of the base. Pay attention to the instructions here, I first put one on the wrong end and had to pry it out:

Next, you just need to place the gas lift device in the center of the base.

The included installation tool is one of the better tools I have encountered. Usually these cheap installation tools are very soft metal, they will peel off immediately, I usually pick up my toolbox and use my own stuff instead of the included tools, but in this case, it works very well . The seat back is screwed to the seat base with a pair of screws, and then the connection point is covered by a snap-in plastic trim. I like when the company pre-installs screws and washers so that I don’t have to look for “Screw G and Washer 4” for each slot.

The armrests are already attached to the seat base, but if you find them too wide, they can indeed be adjusted by a few millimeters:

The plastic lever simply slides onto the protruding pillar:

Once you have assembled the upper part of the seat all together, you only need to place it on top of the air lift:

At this time, you can sit on the chair once, and the friction will keep the base and the seat together (I lifted it up and went down a few stairs without worrying about the base falling). The total assembly time alone is less than 30 minutes, and it will be faster if there are 2 people.

Design and features

First of all, my biggest regret is that I chose an all-black version of the chair. After seeing other color options, I wish I tried something more gorgeous:

In other words, the all-black version looks great. The chair basically looks like DXRacer converted their existing popular racing chair model to a fully mesh design. There are also some springs under the seat to help ergonomics (these seem to stretch the mesh tighter in key locations. The stitching and surface treatment are good, and I haven’t noticed any major flaws or imperfections.

Most aluminum bases are very strong and strong. The center bar of each spoke of the base is plastic, and different colors are different colors.

The armrests are fully adjustable (up/down, inward/outward, forward/backward and swivel tilt along the horizontal plane). Each of these adjustment options can be locked and unlocked by pressing a button. These chairs have the same range of motion as most other chairs I have used, and I can easily lock them into a comfortable position when moving during the day. The top of the armrest is padded plastic, suitable for all-day use and easy to clean.

The lumbar support has a fairly good range of adjustment, which can be moved by simply sliding up or down. The amount of lumbar support cannot be increased or decreased, but by moving the position, it will feel less and less support as needed. The lumbar support bar is made of plastic. I would have liked to see metal here, but it seems to be a strong plastic, so I hope it will be durable.

The headrest pillow is a very comfortable memory foam with a fluffy outer layer. It can be adjusted up and down on the click track and stay in place. It’s on the edge where I want it, but I am an inch higher than their recommended height, so I will look forward to it. At the highest setting, it is still suitable for all-day use, but for taller users, an extra inch of “track” may be better.

They can easily accomplish this additional headrest movement by allowing you to remove the default position of the headrest and screw it into a higher position (the higher position has functional screw holes, but the headrest bracket is a fixed size and Does not work properly) Any other location except the bottom hole. DXRacer does sell accessories, such as a removable footrest or laptop/tablet stand, so maybe these accessories are used for some type of accessory?

The entire seat back can be tilted to 135°. The adjustment lever in the figure below is used for adjustment, similar to a manual car seat backrest adjustment lever. Full tilt is too far for me, and I can’t use anything comfortably except for naps. The ability to adjust this helps to be comfortable throughout the day. I often switch between close to 90° and a more inclined position to minimize stress on my aging body parts.

The casters are one of the smoothest casters I have ever used. They feel effortless and I love them.

I haven’t even talked about the grid yet! After using the DXRacer Air Breathable Mesh Gaming Chair for 5 minutes, I was shocked to find that my back and bottom were cold. My office is usually very cold in autumn and winter, but the previous chair would cause sweating…parts. This is just the opposite, it feels like my back half was washed by an air conditioner. It feels great in a room with normal temperature. If you have a normal to warm room, you will like the mesh material, but if it is cold, then you may have to start using a space heater or wear layer. The mesh is also very comfortable to sit for a long time. Using my previous memory foam upholstered chair, I will get a pressure point after a few hours, but although the DXRacer Air is very strong, I never felt the same pressure or numbness.

The shoulders and buttocks of the chair are quite supportive. As long as you fit this support area, you will like it, but my wide shoulders are right here on the comfortable edge. With an additional inch or two of shoulder or waist weight, I might feel uncomfortable sitting in this chair. For reference, I am 6 feet 4 inches tall, weigh about 210 pounds, and have a mixed athletic/daddy body shape. I was worried that the mesh seat would bend, and it felt like I was sinking in the middle, but they managed to design it in a way to flatten it.

There are two levers on the DXRacer Air Breathable Mesh Gaming Chair, one is used to adjust the height, and the other is used to lock/unlock the backrest of the chair. Combining the backward-leaning option with the backward-leaning option can produce a variety of different postures. I easily find a comfortable one and switch it over time. It is also possible to adjust the amount the spring resists tilting backwards, but I found it a bit too weak, which I don’t like; I just lock the chair to the position I want.

The fit and finish are very good, I don’t have creaky parts or shaking bits. It feels like a durable product, they provide a 2-year warranty for the chair and a lifetime warranty for the frame. I have a feeling that I will use it in the next few years!

what do I like

  • Cooling of the back and hips
  • Decent lumbar support
  • Comfortable to use throughout the day

What will i change

  • More adjustable headrest
  • More waist adjustability
  • For some body types, hip and shoulder support may be too aggressive

Final thoughts

The racing style chair I used last time is uncomfortable in many ways: it squeezes my hips, the seat cushion is not hot enough, and the lumbar support is just a too big pillow. It is painful to use for more than an hour. DXRacer Air Breathable Mesh Gaming Chair only It’s about 30% more expensive than my previous racing chair, and it’s comfortable in addition to keeping all of my back cool. DXRacer has attracted a large number of followers in the past few years. After using the DXRacer breathable mesh gaming chair, I understand why. The beautiful appearance and good quality justify my price ($499 at the time of review).
