He added: “This is really an amazing station, combined with a refurbished Victorian entrance and green roof to promote biodiversity. I hope the local community will be as impressed with the station as I am.

“It is now possible to use the London Underground and London Overground Rail platforms without barriers. This is a real benefit for customers, especially those who go directly to the Royal London Hospital across the road.”

Before the Covid-19 pandemic, approximately 54,000 passengers passed through Whitechapel Station every day.
