EPOS H6PRO Closed Acoustic Gaming Headset Review
generalize
The EPOS H6PRO closed-back headset is an excellent gaming headset for serious and even professional gamers who demand no lag and the absolute best performance.
advantage
- quality product
- Excellent neutral sound profile, perfect for gaming
- Comfortable to wear for long gaming sessions
Launched last year, the EPOS H6PRO is the official headset for all EPOS esports teams.Like most EPOS devices, it’s a wired gaming headset that offers minimal latency and is essentially an upgraded version of an older model EPOS I Sennheiser GSP 600.
A key difference between these new headphones is that they come in both open-back and closed-back models.
Open-Back Headphones vs. Closed-Back Headphones
What I received was a closed-back acoustic, which is the most common style of headphone.
Many hi-fi headphones choose open-back headphones because they tend to provide a more natural sound profile without the low-frequency build-up caused by closed-backs.
Since air is able to pass through the earphones, they should help regulate the heat, making long gaming sessions more comfortable.
I haven’t tested it myself, but I think the open back provides excellent virtual surround sound. They naturally have a better soundstage, giving you more separation between the left and right channels.
Open-back headphones are unpopular because they let sound in and out. Using them in public or noisy places is not ideal at all.
As a result, closed-back headphones offer superior noise isolation and improved bass response.
While I haven’t used the open-back variant of the EPOS H6PRO, this may offer better performance than the closed-back model if you tend to play games by yourself in a quiet room/house.
EPOS with H3 and GSP 600
Check out the FAQ on the EPOS website, the EPOS H6PRO is essentially an upgraded version of the GSP 600.
In contrast, the H6PRO has a sleeker new design and a slimmer headband. The microphone can then now be detached via a magnetic attachment system to ensure easy removal and connection. In addition, the boom arms of the microphones are longer for greater flexibility in microphone pickup and positioning, and feature a slimmer design.
Compared to the cheaper H3, the H6PRO has a completely different headphone speaker system and uses higher quality materials and finishes. It also has a detachable microphone.

Design/Comfort

The photo above shows that the H6PRO has a very different design from the GSP 602. While I actually like the look of the GSP 602, it’s more refined and sleek.
The headband is a bit slimmer, but probably the biggest change for me was the switch from leatherette ear cups to a felt cloth material. I find this improves comfort and helps keep clamminess to a minimum.
On your head, they feel about the same; both headphones comfortably covered my large ears.
Compared to the GSP 602, the combination of lighter weight ear cups and cloth ear cups makes these ear cups more comfortable for extended use.
Conversely, the H3 is much smaller, with the ear cups resting on my ears. They are far less comfortable to me than the H6PRO.

performance/sound quality
Sound quality is similar to the GSP 602; both are great for gaming headsets, and both sound a little better than the H3.
Similar to most EPOS devices, these offer a well-balanced, relatively neutral sound profile suitable for gaming, music and movies.
By contrast, most mainstream music headphones will have a V-shaped sound profile that accentuates the bass and treble. This often sounds user-friendly, but sacrifices detail and isn’t suitable for gaming.
Therefore, the bass is softer than normal headphones. It helps remove ambient noise in games without being drowned out by gunshots or explosions. This also applies to vocals, whether in music or in games.
Treble is also good, as there isn’t much bump in the highs. I found these earphones to be less tiring than many earphones these days.
The headset’s microphone performance is excellent, my voice is clear, and background noise is well filtered out. You can then disable the mic by lifting it up, or, thanks to the magnetic mount, the mic is easy to remove.
Price and Alternatives
The EPOS H6PRO costs £150 and is available from EPOS and Amazon.
The EPOS H3Pro Hybrid is £225 on Amazon, while the EPOS H3 Hybrid is just £105
You can still buy the old EPOS I Sennheiser GSP 600 model for around £105.
While £150 isn’t expensive in the world of music headphones, it’s quite expensive when it comes to gaming headphones.
Only a few Astro headphones or Steelseries Arctis Pro are wired, and they cost about the same.
For similar prices, you can get a lot of great wireless gaming headsets, including the HyperX Cloud II Wireless, the Razer Blackshark V2 Pro, and the SteelSeries Arctis 7X.This EPOS Sennheiser GSP 370 Wireless earphones are also just £135, Available on Amazon.
comprehensive
The EPOS H6PRO closed-back headset is an excellent gaming headset for serious and even professional gamers who demand no lag and the absolute best performance.
They sound great, have a natural sound profile, offer tons of detail suitable for gaming, and are comfortable to wear for extended periods of time.
However, the price puts them well within the price range of premium wireless headphones, which makes them a bit of a tough sell for casual gamers.
