A sort ofBackward racism takes many forms. The question of where does someone come from, no, where does it really come from, because this skin color cannot be “Stuttgart”, the answer must be “Nigeria” or something similar. Afro or braid’s grip: “Can I touch it?”. Suppose someone knows that rap or singing and dancing are very good because they are black. This is mainly harmless, there is no malicious ulterior motives, just saying so in the name of sincere interests.
In fact, it’s not exactly the case: harmless. Anyone who says this has never heard of the person on the other end of the conversation. Never seriously considered the privileges of white skin-naturally, did not work for them in some way. On the contrary, what it means to live as a non-white. Although some people like to convince themselves, the skin color of others is no different: it is true. Most people have racist thoughts because they grew up in a world that has always favored whites.
In this week’s MMK Zollamt exhibition, South African artist Lungiswa Gqunta had to be asked whether the only black person in the room was her husband and the child who was there with her belonged to her. “None of me,” she replied, obviously trying not to lose her composure. Under this circumstance, the question is not malicious, and it is raised in a friendly manner and in a dialogue tone. Nevertheless, she reduced artists, men and children to an external factor: their skin color.
