review The Wuben G2 flashlight brings an unusual shape. If your EDC pocket is full, but you still need a bright light source, you may need a small, flat flashlight with a normal-sized reflector. When a suit is my work uniform, the G2 is perfect for my EDC. Now it just reduces my pocket weight and expands and doesn’t cost much.

test and observe

Wuben G2 flashlights are made of metal and durable plastic. The body of the lamp is metal. There is no “toy” or crumbly feel to the plastic clip material.

I decided not to connect my G2 to my key. When I need a flashlight, I don’t reach for the keys. I prefer to always have a flashlight in my pocket. Also, I don’t want my keys to scratch the G2 lens.

The highlight of the G2 design (no regrets) is the placement of the LED/reflector module on the large side of the small candy bar design flashlight. There are other flat rectangular flashlights, but I have yet to see a “normal” sized reflector placed on the plane of the light.

Here’s a comparison of the Wuben G2’s lens size and their 1100 lumen D1 flashlight. The G2’s 500 lumens is well below the D1’s, but the G2’s 500 lumens in Turbo mode from its large reflector provides a surprisingly bright floodlight and excellent throw distance.

This shows the light level of the “moon”, but it is clear how much light is being cast by the reflector.

Except for 500 lumen turbo mode, other 4 lumen levels are not specified. They are called “High, Medium, Low and Moon”.

The photo above is for 5 light levels from the moon to the turbine at about 20 feet. Notice that the lighting on the grass is mainly from the G2, not the reflections from the house.

Of course, the light is great for using furniture glue in the dark, dripping on my jacket.

I keep the clip on my G2 because it acts as a quick and easy shirt or jacket clip if I need to work hands-free, and it gives my thumb a nice grip when I use the G2 as a hand Grab the positional flashlight.

I admit that when I need my hands to complete a task, I put a small flashlight in my mouth. Come on, you do too. The G2 is difficult to hold in your mouth unless you lightly grip the clip with your front teeth. It works, but clipping the light to a shirt collar or pocket works better.

This would be a great light for medical, law enforcement, maintenance or other night workers who need a good front light for hands-free report writing, inspections, repairs, etc. It will not be kept safe at uniform full-time, but can be placed and re-bagged as needed.

If I grab the sides of the G2, I find myself almost falling. My hands are more secure by holding the front logo with my fingers and the notch of the clip with my thumb.

Once the G2’s battery is drained to a certain level, the LED will flash blue when you turn it on, reminding you that it’s time to recharge. The LED shows red, then flashes red when the liquid level is very low.

what do I like

  • Lots of light from tiny light sources
  • Nice big reflector built into a small flat light.
  • The capacity/duration between charges seems great.

what would i change

  • Zipper, nothing, Nada. The G2 is a Wuben product, and I gave Wuben a “good job — again.”

final thoughts

This small, lightweight pocket light is a great value for money at an affordable price. I hate TV commercials that shout “You’ll expect to pay more!” Usually incorrect, but this time was an exception. The Wuben G2 flashlight is an excellent light for its price point. I will buy some Christmas presents.
