James FlaniganAccording to the “New York Times” business columnist, his twice-weekly column has always been the main content of the “Times” business report. For about 20 years, he died on August 19 after a brief illness at the age of 85. Michael Shields.
Hiltzik reports, “From the mid-1960s when he was seduced by the West from Forbes’ senior editorial work to strengthen the Times’ business and financial coverage-until 2005, Flanigan led the Times readers through a dazzling period. During the period of business transformation, the market boomed and collapsed, bubbles and burst, scandals and triumphs.
“‘Due to his investigative reporting and strong writing, he immediately became a star in Los Angeles,’ recalled Paul E. Steiger, A former business editor of the Times, he recruited Flanigan and later served as the executive editor of the Wall Street Journal until 2020. He also helped found the executive chairman of the non-profit investigative journalism organization ProPublica in 2008.
