The court heard that Mr. Ali initially appeared at Batson and Harman’s apartment at around 9 am on Sunday, March 22, 2020 because he was taking drugs.

Prosecutor Keith Hadrell said: “Mr. Ali’s situation got worse when Mr. Noel and Mr. King were present.

“A request was made against him (Mr. Ali) and threatened to pay the drug debt to a third party.
“He was punched, kicked and threatened. It was decided that because he did not have the money to pay the required debt, he had to make a request to his separated wife.”
The court learned that Batson called Mr. Ali’s separated wife, during which time Mr. Ali could be heard “whispering in the background”.
In the subsequent phone call, one of the defendants could be heard saying: “You know what, I am going to cut off his fingers and ears.”
It has never been determined who is responsible for the comments.
Mr. Hadrill said that Mr. Ali later tried to leave but was stopped by three men.
The prosecutor said that King threatened to break Mr. Ali’s knee and asked Noel to take a metal rod. Noel refused.
Mr. Ali was further detained before being taken to nearby Sainsbury’s at 9pm, when his family and friends gave him up to £1,000 for his release.
It is not clear how much was paid, but it is said that due to the limited financial resources of the Ali family, this figure is “significant”.

His 39-year-old co-defendant Batson in Burlington Gardens, Acton, west London, was sentenced to six years and nine months in prison for two counts of blackmail.
When he was taken off the dock, he could be heard complaining that his sentence was too long.
Noel, 45, of the Ealing Wendover Court in West London, was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison for two blackmail and one count of illegal imprisonment.
Harman will be sentenced later on Friday.
