Madrid police arrested a former Venezuelan spy on American narcotics charges, nearly two years after he was charged Ignored the Spanish extradition order and disappeared.

In 2019, the Spanish High Court approved the extradition of Carvajal to the United States, where he faced federal narcotics charges in New York and Florida for his alleged links to Colombian rebels known for controlling valuable cocaine smuggling routes.
The decision was made after an earlier ruling made by a judge of the High Court, which rejected the U.S. arrest warrant on politically motivated grounds. During this period, Carvajal was released, and apart from a brief statement on social media last year, he never received any more news that he went underground to protest what he believed was political interference in his case.
Carvajal has previously denied any wrongdoing.
