Freeze Social Rent | New Economy Foundation

The cost of living crisis is hitting everyone hard. We’ve all seen news about rising energy bills and rising food costs. But rents are also soaring – and many people living in social housing are wondering how they will make ends meet.

Social rents are expected to rise 11 per cent next year, in line with soaring inflation. The government has bowed to the pressure and says they won’t get to that high level. We’ve won – but it’s not enough.

The government has advised on raising rents from 3% to 7%. Even a 3% increase would drastically reduce the budgets of those currently struggling.

Freeze social rent – email your MPs

Homes For Us argues that rents for social housing tenants should be frozen and that it is up to the Government Funding Council and other social housing providers to ensure services are not lost.

Will you help us win this game? Email your MP about the consultationand encourage your friends and family to do the same.

Many social housing tenants are already making ends meet – but we can act together to stop rents from rising.
