review – I was concerned when the Gadgeteer team decided to do another round of “The Gear We’re Using” posts, since I’ve been using pretty much the same gear for the past two years.I recorded mine work from home setup Just a year ago, when I wrote this, that hadn’t changed at all.Since I rarely go out, my 2018 EDC Posts Still covers everything in my GoRuck backpack since it’s unused in my closet.
However, since I got into gunbuilding and sports shooting in 2020, I’ve accumulated a lot of gear related to both hobbies. So for my shooting range version of “the gear we’re using” I’ve included everything I usually carry with me on a typical visit to my local range.

I’ve briefly explained my gear choices and why I like them. Links to all gear are listed below the photos and at the end of the article. Let’s start with the most important piece of equipment, my rifle.

For my first rifle, I wanted something simple, affordable, reliable, and lightweight. After a lot of research, I decided springfield st edge Packed in 5.56. Saint Edge met all my criteria and was a dream to shoot.I keep as much stock as possible, the only refill is excellent Primary Weapon SLx 1-6 Range with one Slate Industries Hand Control.
Magpul absolutely owns the magazine industry and its backbone PMAG 30th Generation M3 Sets the standard for all other polymer magazine manufacturers. Lightweight, affordable and very reliable, I always pick these magazines when they are on sale.
After falling in love with my Saint Edge rifle, when I was about to try pistol shooting, I naturally turned to Springfield’s line of pistols.i chose this Springfield XDM Elite Because even though it’s a compact pistol with only a 3.8″ barrel, it handles like a full-size pistol. As my everyday carry and home defense weapon, I keep my entire inventory of the XDM Elite, except for one SureFire X300 Weapon Light. This XDM Elite Compact 14 Round Magazine With the +1 extension base pad, it’s easier to get a proper grip on the Elite.
When I’m in range, I like to be as polite as possible to shooters in the adjacent lane. A big part of that was making sure the shells I ran out of didn’t land on or obstruct other shooters.Inexpensive by attaching Feyachi Brass Shell Catcher Using my Springfield rifle, I can keep my shells from annoying other shooters, which makes cleaning or “policing your brass” a breeze.

i want to say i need these Emerson binoculars Check all my bullseyes at 1000 yards, but the truth is they’re easier to aim and shoot and zero my rifle at 25 and 50 yards, which is the distance I shoot most often.
I’ve found very few situations where a Gerber utility is not a good idea, and scope is no exception. At the range, I keep my Gerber Center Drive Multitool On my belt, I have 13 drills and a set of pliers at the ready when I need a quick adjustment.

With Gerber, I don’t do anything with guns Fix It Sticks – Works Gun Kit I Reviewed in April 2021. This kit contains everything I need to repair, troubleshoot or maintain any gun I took out that day. One of the things I liked about this kit that I mentioned in the comments is that there’s plenty of room and compartments for you to add your own.I usually keep one Glock removal tool pop the pins in there, a small Leatherman Railroad Pocket Tools For AR work, two Hope’s Mantis for cleaning, and some Lucas Gun Grease Too.

Another recent review item I have in this range is My Medic MyFAK First Aid Kit (Check out my review here). Even though any good scope should have an extensive medical kit, owning your own is just the responsible thing to do.

Good eye and ear protection is an absolute need for safety gear in any range. In fact, you wouldn’t be able to set foot on the Firewire without these two items.I chose Walker Shaver Earmuffs Used for hearing protection as they allow you to hear the sounds around you while protecting you from higher decibel sounds. For eye protection, I chose cheap but effective Radians Revelation Shooting Glasses.

I really never leave home without me Garmin Instinct Watch and Kershaw frozen pocket knife So obviously they are essential range gear.

Although my Walker headphones are comfortable, they tend to irritate me after an hour or so.While I’m not generally a hat wearer, I do wear this elastic cap For comfort and to block glare on those rare sunny days in the Pacific Northwest.

You can’t enjoy a day at the range without something to shoot and measure your performance and that splash target very suitable. Each hit appears as a bright fluorescent green blob, allowing you to easily see your progress, and my frugal side likes that I can patch holes with extra stickers to get more rounds from each target.

All this gear had to be transported from my tiny apartment to the range safely somehow Savior Gear Long Rifle Pack bear everything. I chose this bag for its incredible sturdiness, huge capacity, and ability to securely protect it with a case lock. All of the guns and gear listed in this article can fit into this sponge pack. This includes ten fully loaded Magpul PMAGs and an extra rifle. Also, the Velcro section on the outside of the pack allows me to display my collected morale patches. The two patches I like are 30 Second Self-Reliance Patch and Ranger Up Moral Flexibility Patch It also happens to be a quote from one of my favorite John Cusack movies.

While I can fit everything into my rifle bag, I like to keep everything I need in a separate backpack.mine SOG Ranger 12 Hiking Bag Small enough to not weigh me down, big enough to fit my earphones, medical bag, goggles and binoculars with extra space. Also, it has a velcro section for me to use Military Monkey Blood Type Morale Patch Just in case someone is looking for a donor.
Well, that’s pretty much all my range gear. I wish I could say that’s all the shooting gear I have, but there’s more. Sports shooting is a super fun but very addictive hobby and I encourage everyone to try it at least once in your local area.
