Rumors about the latest generation of Garmin watches are heating up, including the highly anticipated Garmin Phoenix 7 series Garmin Venu 2 Plus And Epix Gen 2.
These watches are expected to be launched soon, most likely in Consumer Electronics Show 2022.
The original Garmin Epix was launched in 2015 and was the first Garmin watch with both map and multi-sport functions.
This premium watch has all the functions of Fenix3, but has a new mapping function and a color touch screen.
Although startup 2 seems strangend The generation after 7 years has some truth. Garmin Epix is a flagship product that allows Garmin to make large-scale changes/upgrades to the Fenix series without causing strong user opposition due to price increases or their dislike of the feature.
Technically, nothing has been confirmed yet, so you should treat the following as a rumor.
Garmin Epix Gen 2 and Fenix 7-AMOLED and transflective pixel memory (MIP)
The new Garmin Epix Gen 2 will be Garmin’s first serious multi-sport watch with an AMOLED display.
Many users seem to be quite controversial about using this display technology, so it is a good thing for them to temporarily exclude it from the Fenix series.
solve
The argument in favor of it is that AMOLED looks better, has a higher resolution, allows for an improved user interface and the potential to improve the way applications and data are displayed. The resolution of Garmin Venu 2 is 416 x 416 pixels and vívoactive 4’s 260 x 260 pixels, which is more than twice the pixels (173056 and 67600).
The increased resolution will help the mapping function, which is well connected with the original Epix.
For casual wear, most people will prefer AMOLED displays.
Battery
The disadvantage of AMOLED is that it requires more power to drive, so it will reduce battery life. You can save battery power by turning off the display when not in use, but if you use the always-on mode, it will drop faster.
However, Venu 2 can last up to 11 days in smart watch mode and can be extended to 12 days in power saving mode. This is more than twice the original Venu.
It is believed that Garmin Epix Gen 2 can provide 16 days in smart watch mode. Once you start using GPS, things will quickly disappear.
This Phoenix 6 Pro There are 14 days better or 36 GPS without music. Venu 2 reduces the battery power to 22 hours on GPS. I hope Epix Gen 2 can run for a little more than a day using GPS alone.
Show visibility
Then there is the issue of display visibility in the sun. When the display is difficult to read, it can be very annoying to try to read the data during operation. This is my experience on Suunto 7 and many other smart watches.
Similarly, people believe that Garmin has solved this problem, or at least it is better than other smart watches.
touch screen
The original Epix had a color touch screen using a MIP display. It seems that this year may be the first time the Fenix series is equipped with a touch screen.
Epix Gen 2 will also be equipped with a touch screen. This is usually not ideal during exercise due to sweat/water, but it is a good feature for general use or lower intensity activities.
No solar
A welcome addition to the Fenix series is solar energy. It looks like Fenix 7 may be standard solar. However, Epix Gen 2 probably does not have this feature.
In the previously leaked pictures, you can see a thick solar panel line on Fenix 7, but you can’t see anything on Epix Gen 2.
Most other functions are the same
Almost everything else should be the same as the new Garmin Fenix 7 series.
The details of the new features and functions are a bit weak on the ground and cannot be 100% confirmed.
However, the new watch will definitely have 4day A new generation of Garmin Elevate sensor for Venu 2.
Music and Garmin pay will also appear.
Multi-band frequency GNSS is very possible.
As for features, I hope there are some new and improved Firstbeat data.
It is also believed that Garmin has been working on developing native and interesting features in the past few years. I think there are rumors about Fenix 6 and Forerunner watches that were launched in the past year or so. We will most likely see it in 2022. This feature will definitely convince me to upgrade Fenix 6 Pro to Fenix 7 or Epix Gen 2.
Price
The exact pricing is still unknown.
The original Garmin Epix sells for US$549, while Fenix3 sells for US$499
In the UK, the suggested retail price of Fenix 6 Pro is £599.99 (US$599), while the suggested retail price of Fenix 6 Pro Solar is £729.99.
I hope that Garmin Epix Gen 2 will be priced at more than £700
