The Honor Magic4 Pro was released globally last week. My review sample came a little later than expected, so I haven’t finished the full review.
I’m so impressed with it so far that I’ve made a post Covers benchmarks and batteries.
This article is dedicated to its camera. Since I don’t have a phone for that long, I don’t have a huge collection of camera samples, but I’ll add as I use my phone.
Camera specs vs. other phones
- rear camera:
- 50 MP Sony IMX766, f/1.8, 23mm (W), 1/1.56″, 1.0µm, Multidirectional PDAF, Laser AF
- 50 MP, f/2.2, 122˚ (ultra-wide), 1/2.5″
- 64 MP, f/3.5, 90mm (periscope telephoto), 1/2.0″, 0.7µm, PDAF, OIS, 3.5x optical zoom
- Front camera:
- 12 MP, f/2.4, 100˚ (ultrawide), 1.22µm
- TOF 3D, (Depth/Biometric Sensor)
I had a hard time finding the exact camera specs, but the main sensor specs match the excellent 50 MP Sony IMX766 used in the OPPO Find X5 Pro and Realme GT 2.
The other two sensors are more difficult to solve. The periscope zoom lens might be the OmniVision OV64B, which is usually the primary sensor used on mid-range phones.
While the Sony IMX766 is excellent, I think the periscope zoom lens is what sets this phone apart. It’s a better sensor than the OPPO Find X5 Pro or OnePlus 10 Pro, and has similar specs to the Google Pixel 6 Pro.
However, unlike the Google Pixel 6 Pro, you also get a high-resolution ultra-wide lens. The ultra wide-angle lens isn’t as good as the OPPO/OnePlus Sony IMX766, but overall, you end up with comprehensive camera specs.

First impressions of the zoom lens are very good. It is significantly better than the zoom of the OPPO Find X5 Pro I just finished reviewing.
I’m not sure about the zoom settings for the Blackpool Tower shot, apparently one is standard, I’m assuming 3.5x, then maybe 10x. Obviously the last photo isn’t great, but no phone is at this level of zoom when you use digital zoom. The fact that you can make out people in the window is still impressive.

So far, I am very impressed with the Honor Magic4 Pro.
However, I’m having some issues with focus intermittently. When I tap a dot to focus it, the phone seems to struggle occasionally, as if it’s focusing on something else. This is especially true for small or shiny objects. My Pixel 6 has been doing this a lot lately, so maybe it’s just my hands shaking and I’m crap about photography.
Other than that, I have no other bad things to say about the camera. I think the three rear cameras make it one of the most well-rounded camera-oriented phones of the year.
