NIcolas Gentile is a 37-year-old Italian pastry chef who not only wants to pretend to be a hobbit-he also wants to live like a hobbit. First, he bought a piece of land in the Bucchianico countryside near the town of Chieti in Abruzzo, where he and his wife began to build their private residence. Shire from JRR TolkienThe fictional Middle-earth world.
Then, on August 27th, he and a group of friends and Lord of the Rings fans dressed up as elves, gnomes, hobbits, wizards, and humans, and walked more than 120 miles (200 kilometers) from Chieti across mountains and rivers. Throw “a ring”, The middle mood element of the legend of the Lord of the Rings, entered the crater of Vesuvius.
“Some time ago, I realized that books and movies are not enough to satisfy my passion for the fantasy genre, especially for Lord of the Rings Legend,” Gentile said. “I’m still reading other people’s lives. I decided to live my hobbit life to the full. “
On the two hectares of land he bought, he has built his first house, where he lives with his family, dressed in Hobbit clothes, and his doors are open to tourists. Here, a pastry chef with a degree in geology plans to build a dwarven caravan, a green dragon inn, and a large version Bilbo Baggins House. His goal is to transform this piece of Abruzzo Enter the Hobbit VillageThere is an adjoining farmhouse where visitors can live in a magical world, which, according to Gentile, is not far from the way people live in Bucchianico.
“Over time, I realized that my friends, relatives, and Bucchianico farmers have always lived like hobbits. They work like hobbits and work in close contact with nature. They are like hobbits. Celebrate the same, organize festivals and dances, and even dress up as a hobbit.”

In Bucchianico, the Bandresi Festival is held every year.It is one of the oldest festivals in China Europe – Celebrating nearly 500 years, people dressed in medieval clothes, sang, danced and prepared typical local dishes.
“Those are Hobbit clothes,” Gentile said. “I realize that I have always lived in the Shire. The only thing missing is to realize it and build a village. I want people to come into my mind, my fantasy. Many people make fun of us. Some people think I am trying to escape reality. Far away. I am realizing my dream, my adventure. By buying that piece of land, I remove it from the reality I don’t like and shape it the way I want it.”
He said that due to copyright issues, his “county” will be called Contea Gentile.
These houses will be built through crowdfunding and are sustainable, using solar energy. Just like a real hobbit, Gentile loves nature and his goal is to take care of it. He said that his journey to Vesuvius to throw the ring into the crater was not just an extravagant walk for Lord of the Rings fans-he wanted to send a message.
“The earth today is threatened by pollution and climate emergencies. They are terrible enemies. As SauronWe want to show that our land, like Tolkien’s Middle-earth, must be saved and protected. That’s why we went there to throw the ring. I was too environmentally friendly to throw a piece of iron into nature, so I threw a piece of solidified lava into the crater and gave the ring to a little boy we met.
“During these hundreds of kilometers, we met a lot of people. The feelings they showed us were incredible. People on the street opened the doors of their homes for us, gave us food, and put them in their houses. Entertain us, let us take a bath. If it’s not magic, what is this?”
