The New York Times reported today that “Sergeant Aquilino A. Goner and three other police officers who confronted the crowds who broke into the Capitol told Congress one after another about the brutal violence and racial violence they had suffered. Doctrine and hostility. A group of angry mobs acted in the name of former President Donald J. Trump, beating, crushing and shocking them.”
Police officers Michael Fanone, Harry Dunne, and Daniel Hodges and Sheriff Gonell vividly described the physical violence, racist abuse, and verbal hostility they experienced, which described the intent of the mob; causing physical harm to law enforcement and members of Congress. Officials described the emotional pain they felt as Republican congressmen continued to lie and whitewash the atrocities they suffered during the uprising. Officer Fanone said: “What makes the fight more difficult and painful is that I know that many of my compatriots, including many who I risked my life to defend, are playing down or completely denying what happened. I feel like I am gone. Hell is back to protect them and the people in this room.”
Each officer’s description of their experience during the uprising revealed similar levels of racism, Trump worship, hatred, and violence. Sergeant Goner was beaten by a flagpole, sprayed with chemical sprays, and had undergone foot surgery, facial and shoulder surgery, and at least one year of rehabilitation. He also reported that he heard the mob say, “Trump sent us here.” Officer Fanone was electrocuted, dragged and beaten at the base of his neck, while the racist mob shouted: “Take his gun and let us use him. His own shot killed him.” He had a heart attack, traumatic brain injury, and was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder. Officer Hodges was brutally pressed at the door by the mob, and they felt they were willing to kill him in order to complete the task of “stop the theft” instigated by Trump. Officer Dunn emotionally recounted his experience of being called “f___king n____ger” by lowly racist terrorists, and raised a tearful question, “Is this America?”
The disrespect received by these officials and all law enforcement personnel in the Capitol is equivalent to the pain of the physical and verbal attacks they suffered on January 6. When asked if they watched the police officer’s testimony today, Senator Mitch McConnell and Rep. Kevin McCarthy said arrogantly: “No, we have other work to do.” The two splits , The unpatriotic officials refused to investigate the truth of the riots and violated their oath to protect the Constitution. How can one not suspect that they were directly or indirectly involved in the attack on the Capitol? Compared with the patriotic heroes Fanone, Gonell, Hodges, and Dunn, McConnell and McCarthy are just corrupt opportunists who only care about power and not democracy.
Several members of the House Committee became emotional as they listened to stories of police heroism and suffering. CNN Politics reported during the official testimony that Rep. Adam Kingsinger choked up and then “called other members of his party to say, “We need to reject those who preach” about the January 6th U.S. Capitol rebellion conspiracy.”
Rep. Liz Cheney (Liz Cheney) said during the court session;
“We must also know what happened every minute in the White House that day-every phone call, every conversation, every meeting, before, during and after the attack. Dear men and women must come forward.” The entire committee said Dignity did their job, and they worked to find out how and why the insurgents were able to come close to stopping the 2020 election certification, and who helped coordinate the obvious, well-planned attack.
