DHis 7-day morbidity rate approximately quadrupled in one month.according to Robert Koch Institute (RKI) from Friday morning is 20.4-the previous day’s value was 19.4, and the latest low on July 6 was 4.9. German health authorities reported 3448 cases of new crown infection to RKI in one day. This can be clearly seen from the numbers reflecting the state of the RKI dashboard at 4:11 in the morning.
After the RKI, the 7-day incidence rate in Germany increased a few weeks earlier than the summer of 2020, and at a faster rate. “Although vaccination rates continue to increase,” RKI wrote on Twitter on Thursday night.
24 deaths in Germany
To date, this incidence has been the basis for many corona restrictions in the pandemic, for example as part of the Federal Emergency Brake that expires at the end of June. In the future, more consideration will be given to other values such as hospital admission.
According to new information, Germany recorded 24 deaths within 24 hours. Thirty people died a week ago. Since the beginning of the pandemic, RKI has counted 3,784,433 detected Sars-CoV-2 infections. Since many infections have not been detected, the actual total may be much higher.
RKI stated that the number of people who have recovered is 3,662,700. The number of deaths due to or involving a confirmed Sars-CoV-2 infection rose to 91,754.
People between 20 and 24 years old are often infected
As can be seen from the new RKI weekly report, health authorities are currently unable to understand all chains of infection. Regarding the age of the infected person, RKI wrote: “Currently, an increase in the incidence rate can be observed in the 10 to 34-year-old age group, although this trend is now also becoming apparent in the age group under 49.” This information relates to the period as of August 1. The RKI recorded the most infections in a week, with 49 out of every 100,000 residents infecting young people between 20 and 24 years of age. People 55 and older are given single-digit values, but some of these groups have also increased slightly.
According to the report, the number of hospitalized patients and treatment in the intensive care unit is still at a “low level.” So far, those infected, mostly young people, have a lower risk of serious illness than the elderly. In the past four reporting weeks, according to RKI, there was no difference between the alpha and delta variants in terms of the proportion of patients who came to the hospital.
Comic image of returning passengers
The RKI’s data on returning passengers do not show the complete picture: 42% of the cases reported in the past few weeks have no information on countries that may be infected, it said. According to the report, compared with the previous week, the proportion of cases known to be infected abroad has not increased further.
Between July 5 and August 1, there were 5,000 cases of infection, among which people may have been exposed to the virus abroad. -In Germany, the number recorded during the same period was approximately four times. As the tourist destination with the largest number of suspected infections, Spain is far ahead of Turkey and Croatia.
Lambda is not important
The delta variant classified as worrying has largely replaced other variants in Germany. As RKI wrote, Delta was found in 97% of the samples selected for genetic analysis (representing Germany). Almost all other evidence is related to the previously dominant mutation alpha (B.1.1.7). According to the data, the so-called lambda variant still has no effect in Germany.
Throughout the summer, the number of laboratory tests (PCR) performed each week was significantly lower than in the spring. However, in the past four weeks, RKI has again seen an increase in the proportion of positive tests. However, at 3%, it is still relatively low.
According to RKI, most of the coronavirus cases recorded since February have not been vaccinated. The report called for “urgent recommendations to take advantage of the vaccination discount against Covid-19 now”. RKI estimates that the effectiveness of vaccination for people aged 18 to 59 is about 88%, and that for people over 60 years old is about 87%.
