Indian Navy delivers 10th P-8I to expand maritime reconnaissance capabilities

With the delivery of India’s 10th P-8I, Boeing is continuing to expand the Indian Navy’s long-range maritime reconnaissance and anti-submarine warfare capabilities. This patrol aircraft is an integral part of the Indian Navy’s fleet and has more than 30,000 flying hours since it entered service in 2013.

This is the second aircraft delivered under the option contract for four more aircraft awarded by the Indian Ministry of Defense in 2016. The Indian Navy is the first international customer of P-8, which is also operated by the US Navy. Royal Australian Air Force and Royal British Air Force.

In addition to unparalleled maritime reconnaissance and anti-submarine warfare capabilities, the P-8I is also used to assist in disaster relief and humanitarian missions.

Boeing supports India’s growing P-8I fleet by providing training for Indian Navy flight crews, spare parts, ground support equipment, and field service representatives. Boeing’s integrated logistics support has achieved a high level of combat readiness for the fleet at the lowest possible cost.

As part of the training and support package contract signed in 2019, Boeing is currently completing the construction of a training support and data processing center at INS Rajali in Aracona, Tamil Nadu, and the Naval Aviation Technical Institute in Kochi, Kerala. Construction of a secondary maintenance training center. This new local ground training will enable Indian Navy crews to increase their mission proficiency in a shorter period of time, while reducing training time on the aircraft, thereby increasing aircraft availability.
