Internship with Professor Steve Cohen
Professor Steve Cohen is looking for two interns to provide extensive administrative and research support for the Spring and Summer 2022 semesters. Steve Cohen is Professor of Practice in the School of International and Public Affairs, Director of the Master of Sustainable Management and MPA Program in Environmental Science and Policy, and Senior Associate Dean of the School of Professional Studies. The intern will assist Professor Cohen in drafting memos, emails and briefings. The intern will also manage activities and communications related to Professor Cohen’s external commitments, such as his role on external boards and committees. In particular, the intern will assist Professor Cohen as a judge for the Yidan Education Prize this summer, managing the evaluation process for nominations for the annual prize.
Interns will spend approximately 70% of their time supporting Cohen research reports, white papers, articles, case studies, briefs and presentations, writing and editing as needed. Common research themes include environmental policy, renewable energy, urban sustainability policy and management, and sustainability indicators. The intern will help Professor Cohen refine the syllabus and materials for his fall sustainable management course, write and update case studies, and find supplemental resources. Interns can help develop proposals for papers and conferences. Interns can also assist with social media tasks related to LinkedIn and Twitter.
This position requires excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Candidates must be able to work in a fast-paced environment while remaining organised and precise to provide a high level of administrative and research support. Candidates must be able to multitask, work independently and handle confidential information with care. Candidates must be proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel. Social media skills are a plus. Candidates should be proactive, professional and detail-oriented. A strong interest in the environment and sustainability is preferred, but not required.
logistics: Candidates should be able to work 20 hours per week starting in April 2022, with the possibility of continuing to work in the fall semester. Candidates will be able to work up to 35 hours per week during the summer term.
Interns will be paid $18 an hour. Columbia and Barnard students are eligible to apply.
