Police spokesman Fred Enanga announced at a press conference that three suicide bombers had detonated explosives in two places in the city center. The assailant was among the dead; 33 others were injured.
IS confessed to the attack through the digital messenger service Telegram on Tuesday night. The militia claimed that they also killed the police in the attack. According to the police, the perpetrators belonged to the Allied Islamic Democratic Forces (ADF), which was listed by the US government as an IS subsidiary of a terrorist organization in March.
Disguised as a motorcycle messenger
According to the police, the first explosion occurred near 10.03 local time (08.03 CET), near the Kampala Central Police Station. Three minutes later, it is said that two more assassins disguised as motorcycle messengers and detonated the next explosive device near the parliament. Another suspect was arrested and led the police to find the bomb. Enanga said it had been demolished.
The scenes of burning vehicles and smoke were shared on social media. According to media reports, the violent explosion threw people to the ground. The council meeting has been suspended until further notice. It is said that many streets in the city have been closed.
