Israel says EU diplomats should not attend Iran’s inauguration – EURACTIV.com

The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on Monday (August 2nd) that the European Union’s decision to send diplomat Enrique Mora to the inauguration of Iran’s new President Ibrahim Raisi this week showed “poor judgment”.

The ministry said in a statement that the decision was “puzzling and shows poor judgment”.

“A few days after Iran’s killing of two civilians, EU representatives attended the ceremony, one of whom was from an EU member state. This was an act of state terrorism against civilian shipping.”

Israel, Britain and the United States accused Iran of attacking an oil tanker near Oman last week.

The attack killed a British security guard and a Romanian crew member. The ship is operated by Israeli billionaire Zodiac Maritime.

The 60-year-old ultra-conservative Raisi will be inaugurated by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Tuesday and will be sworn in in Parliament two days later.
