Italian police arrested a 19-year-old Kosovo woman of Italian origin on Wednesday. She was accused of belonging to the Islamic State group. She was said to be “willing to be a martyr” and had connections with the Vienna attackers.
The Ministry of the Interior stated that the woman only used the initials BT to indicate that she was related to the gunman Kujtim Fejzulai, who killed 4 people in the Austrian capital last year and was subsequently killed by the police.
It said that BT became radical at the age of 16, and recently moved from Kosovo to Milan, but has been in contact with her husband and supporters of the Islamic State in the country.
The police found jihadist materials on her mobile phone, as well as pictures of known IS attackers.
They also found more than 2,000 messages providing material and ideological support for IS in the chat group, and stated that BT had been communicating with the “warrior’s wife” and in some cases provided advice to newcomers.
A message released by the police stated:
We should use AK47 to celebrate at your wedding. We need to celebrate, obviously we will not leave an unbeliever hahahaha. It’s all down! ! ! ! There is blood everywhere.
Another cheered the beheading of French teacher Samuel Paty in October last year, saying it was “a lesson for all other teachers. He deserves it!”
The police released a recording in which they said that the woman could be heard singing her loyalty to the Islamic State and that she was prepared to sacrifice her life.
“She announced that she was willing to be a martyr,” Milan prosecutor Alberto Nobili said at a press conference, describing the woman’s information as “chilling.”
