Kitchen Remodel Update: Our New Cafe Appliances

I can’t believe it’s been four years since our kitchen remodel project at our house in RI. It’s been a lot of fun, and we still love all the deliberate choices we’ve made to update the space and cafe appliances. It’s fun to look back at all the work we’ve done and be able to enjoy it for years to come.We have had good experiences with Cafe Appliances, even Using them again in our Vermont house. Over the years I’ve heard of many people who have purchased Café Appliances or are considering it after seeing our renovation. After four years of use, I wanted to share this article again with some thoughts.

I think I’ve said it about a million times, but these appliances look like they were made for our kitchen design. The kitchen layout makes cooking, cleaning and dining feel so natural and enjoyable. When we were doing our recent updates (paint, hardware, fixtures) we thought about Cafe Appliances (i talk more here) but I really don’t know how incredible they would look in our house. The appliances come in two different designs, including matte white and matte black.We knew almost right away that we wanted to go for the matte white, it totally brightened up the space (I really like the matte black, I’m so excited We were able to use it in our house in Vermont).

Custom cabinets are expensive so we decided to update the existing ones since they are in great shape and paint them (More about colors here). The hardware was of course our second decision and we went with brushed bronze (You can see all the finishing options here). Which is funny because it looks almost coppery in some lights, I think because we have a lot of coppery in our kitchen. Although we originally used plaster for the backsplash behind the oven, We finally decided to add subway tiles A teal color that complements the color of the cabinets.we used For our countertop material, it held up really well.

I was so excited when I found out They make a dual fuel double oven with a convection range. We have natural gas so I like the built in gas range and electric oven. Our old oven was the exact same size but only had five burners and this one has six. It might not seem like much of a difference, at first I didn’t think it was, but I assure you, it is. Most notably, because the cooktop comes with an integrated griddle option! I have to admit we didn’t use it until recently and now we just keep it because it’s a game changer. Cooking pancakes and eggs to perfection, sautéing veggies, and making paninis is one of our favorite features (especially Craig, since he’s a pancake guy). Having a double oven is also ideal because we can use different temperatures to cook multiple things at the same time if needed (it’s a dream to cook Christmas dinner – we’re hosting for the first time too). How pretty are those knobs? I just love how well they blend with the brass and copper accents throughout the kitchen. The convection range not only saves cooking time, but is also very energy efficient.

To be honest, I never thought about dishwashers. Our old one didn’t work very well and was ridiculously loud, but it wasn’t broken so we didn’t replace it.until our new coffee machine dishwasher After installing I realized how amazing they are. I told Craig I was writing this article and asked his opinion on dishwashers. He said, well, I can tell you a “con,” and I was a bit confused, “It’s so quiet, you have to put your ear to it to see if it’s actually running.” Appliance joke, lol. Seriously though, it’s so quiet. We could only run the last dishwasher at night because it was so loud you couldn’t hear anything. It also keeps the dishes super clean, like never needing to rinse anything again (ahem, old dishwasher) and it’s fast. It also has three shelves, two for utensils and a third for silver (there is also a silverware basket on the bottom shelf). One of my favorite features of the Bottle Jets, aside from the fact that it’s basically silent, is designed for reusable bottles, vases, and other jars that are harder to clean.

You got me on the water heater. I remember seeing this demo at an immersion event at the Louisville factory and it made my head spin.just something about Ability to get hot water from the refrigeratorI think I drink more tea now because of it (and I think Craig makes me tea more often because he likes to use it lol). There’s a lot of space in fridges and freezers, with many different storage solutions (I’ll post a separate article on how we organize it). It’s nice to have hot water always on hand without having to use the sink faucet and jug. There are also options for precise fills, so you can choose how much water to dispense, which is a nice feature for cooking, or if you want to keep track of how much water you’re drinking. It’s also counter-deep so has a built-in look, which would be great in our tiny kitchen!

It’s been years since the units were installed and I honestly can’t say enough good things about them. The overall quality is good and still looks fresh and modern. The variety of kitchen appliances available to choose from is so vast that it can be overwhelming. We have renovated and updated the kitchen over the past few years to make it a great place to cook and enjoy a meal. Kitchen remodels can be very expensive, but taking a few years and doing most of the work yourself helps keep it manageable. Instead of tearing down the entire kitchen, we used the existing layout and saved money on things like kitchen cabinets and countertops by using more affordable materials.
