Installation and setup
Read the printed manual step by step, with a magnifying glass at hand. You may get the watch up and running, but be prepared for gaps in certain directions. For example, if I check the Bluetooth settings of my phone and watch, the two devices don’t seem to “recognize” each other. However, they are connected and run together according to the GaoFit app, and because the notification is delivered to the watch and the app successfully “find my watch”.
Test and observe
KOSPET Optimus 2 is my eighth smart or fitness watch, and I also support two other models for family members.
I chose to evaluate Optimus 2 as a smart watch instead of activating its mobile phone functions. My mobile phone provider will not issue additional SIM cards for watches of the same plan. I have to activate a separate new phone plan, so it’s like carrying two phones.
Optimus 2 setup is an adventure.
All parts of the tiny printing direction are incomplete. It’s like having to use the phone application to complete the account. It is totally unclear how to accomplish this step in the app, for this reason, I still use my GaoFit mobile app as a “visitor”.
After many emails, the second-level support was finally able to help me open the mobile notification to watch through a simple step. The first-level support may have been shared 2 days ago.
Please note that here and now, the word “other” in the app actually means “other”, and when the switch is turned on, all notifications received by your phone will also be delivered to your watch. I suggested to KOSPET that they quickly change “other” to “other”. “Other” seems to me like an application name with an icon.
If you turn on “Other” at “Notifications” in the app, it will send all notifications, and if the switch is off, no notifications will be sent. Unable to choose which specific apps on the phone to notify on the watch.
There are too many unresolved questions about the watch, and there is no clear way to answer them except via email support.
For example, you can choose to run the watch in “Android mode” or “Lite mode” in the phone settings. what’s the difference? How should I choose? I have to find out via email.
When a call notification occurs, there is very little information about the notification displayed on the watch. The watch cannot reply.
Through the text, I can see the sender and a few words in the message, but the message does not expand. Using email, I can see the sender and subject line, but I cannot expand the email.
The notification on the watch is basically an alert reminding you to check your phone.
Amazon’s description says that the watch is “waterproof” at the top of the page, and “life waterproof” at the bottom. The printed instructions on the watch say “not waterproof”. I sent an email. It is only splash-proof.
The watch face store is an application accessed on the watch, with 45 faces to choose from. Not the least I have seen, but not many.
The app store, also a watch app, has 5 apps; calculator, Facebook, Whatsapp, stopwatch and flashlight. That’s pretty slim.
To be fair, this watch runs on Android 10 and comes with the Google Play store. More bluffing commenters may have added several Google applications to check their operation, but I don’t want to give up my Google login information. I know, “But you put the phone app on your phone.”
The watch camera can clearly see the image at first, but now it seems that there is fog inside the lens. The image looks like it is in a foggy or smoke-filled room. It views and shoots blurred images. The watch has experienced zero moisture.
About sports tracking…
I set my watch to skip rope exercise and climbed 5 flights of stairs. I can’t find a way to stop exercise tracking. When I swipe to the left, there is a very unclear “long time” red flag, whatever it means, as if it might be a stop button. Press that, press all the workout statistics while they continue, swipe in all directions, press the hardware button, nothing will stop the workout. It continues.
Motion tracking is not a function of the watch app. The GaoFit application is basic and only displays steps, sleep, health (heart rate only), SP02 and weight.
what do I like
Well…
- Despite its size, the watch is not uncomfortable.
- The watch keeps accurate time.
- The alarm clock woke me up.
What will i change
- The experience level of KOSPET Support is still very early.
- The manual needs to have a larger print. Unless you are 12 or older, you will need a magnifying glass to read.
- There is a great need to edit and improve the setup instructions.
- It is not possible to use the watch to reply to a text notification on the main phone, even if the watch displays part of the message.
- Unless you have an activated SIM card, you cannot use the watch to send text messages.
- The size is too big, and I like fairly large dive watches and digital watches.
- The “screen always on” feature can be useful. The brand name seems to have this choice.
- I don’t really need a camera in my watch.
- The phone interface between the watch and the phone is okay for me (like Samsung), the watch is not a standalone phone. This is me.
- Need to customize which apps deliver notifications to the watch. You can only select all or none.
- The direction of the watch must match the watch.
- The claims about Amazon watches need to be verified and corrected. (For example, 17 exercises are displayed, only 9 on the watch, waterproof rating, etc.)
Final thoughts
I hate being in this position, but I am here again. Given the results of this review, I cannot recommend KOSPET Optimus 2. Maybe it will become a better device in a future version?
