review – I’ve seen “noise machines” in the doctor’s office. Maybe you have too! I bought one for my family years ago, but the LectroFan EVO is an all-electronic device with 22 different sound options. Time to put them side by side.
What is it?
Unlike competitors that produce mechanical noises, the LectroFan EVO has no moving parts and has easy-to-use controls, including a built-in timer.
These sounds are designed to reduce the intelligibility of sounds and noises around you, thereby increasing privacy.

Design and Features
The EVO has six buttons on the front panel. Each is marked with an easy-to-understand icon.

Here’s an excerpt from the manual explaining what the different sounds look like.
The USB power adapter is rated for 500 mA.
The bottom shows how the power cables are routed. There is only one exit point.
There is an external audio jack for headphones or portable speakers (not included).
Performance
EVO doesn’t do much. Plug it in and choose your preferred sound. I prefer a deeper “brown” noise. The sound is non-directional, so the source of the sound is less obvious.
Curious about the competition? I shot a video of the popular DOHM sounder, which has a mechanical fan-like mechanism. The DOHM sound is regulated through the top and side vents.
Unlike DOHM, EVO has a sleep timer. Each press adds an hour. A brief rising tone provides feedback on your selection.
I recently had a brief power outage and found that the EVO had turned on by itself. This is a feature! If you’re using a remote switch and you’ve got your EVO tucked away somewhere, that’s great. The automatic power-on feature can be disabled.
I did find the DOHM’s mechanical whirling sound more pleasing. It’s hard to quantify. However, the EVO is not bad either. It’s a matter of personal taste.
what do I like
- Solid state (no moving parts)
- Many different sound options – there may be one you like
- Timer and auto-on on reconnect
- Incremental volume control
what would i change
- I still like the “feel” of the old DOHM sound a little bit, but only a little bit.
final thoughts
If you want maximum adjustability and options in a noisier machine, the LectroFan EVO is hard to beat.
