Low Carb Alfredo Sauce Ingredients

This section explains how to choose the best ingredients for a quick and easy Alfredo sauce, what each ingredient does in the recipe, and substitution options. See recipe card below for measurements.

  • butter -I use grass-fed butter here, but any unsalted variety will do.
  • garlic – This Ketchup Alfredo Garlic Sauce doesn’t skimp on garlic! I used 6 cloves here, but feel free to reduce the amount if you want less garlic. You can also use garlic powder instead (use 3/4 tsp instead of 6 cloves).
  • heavy cream – This adds richness to the sauce while keeping it pourable. If you need a substitute and don’t mind the taste, you can also use full-fat canned coconut milk instead.I do not recommend almond milk, because the final sauce was too watery.
  • grated parmesan cheese – this adds to the flavor and Thicken the Alfredo sauce. Grate it if possible, or use the pre-ground kind. Chopped parm should work too, but may take longer to melt. As a substitute, cream cheese can act as a thickener, but the taste is completely different, so I don’t recommend it unless you want a richer, creamier sauce.
  • sea salt and black pepper – You’ll want to add a little more than you think you need, as the sauce will mellow when mixed with toppings like pasta or vegetables. If you don’t like the look of black pepper in the sauce, use white pepper instead.
  • nutmeg – This is a classic ingredient in any easy Alfredo sauce recipe, but you can omit it if you want.
