Today, realme launched the Realme GT Neo 3 and Neo 3T. Realme GT Neo 3 is the first phone to launch in the UK/EU MediaTek Dimensity 8100and based on the pricing, I think it’s probably one of the best phones on the market.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 on the Neo 3T is an excellent chipset, and one of my favorites from last year, but how much difference is the performance between the two chipsets?

I reused an old table for these results, which also shows performance compared to last year Snapdragon 888 and this year’s current flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
The MediaTek Dimensity 8100’s results are very impressive, not only better than the SD870, but also better than last year’s Snapdragon 888.Considering that the MediaTek Dimensity 8100 is a mid-to-high-end phone, and Real Me GT 2.
Geek Platform
- MediaTek Dimensity 8100
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 870
The Geekbench results are quite interesting as Dimensity has low single-core but high multi-core.
It seems that the CPU frequency has a greater impact on the Dimensity 8100 than the newer A78 CPU architecture. The Snapdragon 870 is clocked 12.28% higher on a single core, although this only brings a 4.25% advantage on a single core.
Dimensity gains a significant advantage in multi-core performance, along with superior CPU architecture and higher frequencies for other cores. In this test, the Dimensity 8100 has a 37% advantage over the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870.
3D Mark Wildlife Stress Test and Thermal Throttling

- MediaTek Dimensity 8100
- Temperature: 32 to 38 degrees
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 870
- Temperature: 25 to 39 degrees
Here, we see that the MediaTek Dimensity 8100 flex performs significantly better than the Snapdragon 870.
The stability is almost the same, but the best cycle result of the MediaTek Dimensity 8100 is 27.7% higher than that of the Qualcomm. There is less battery drain and significantly less temperature rise.
Even more impressively, the MediaTek Dimensity 8100 is arguably better than last year’s flagship Snapdragon 888, which was also featured on the Realme GT 2.
The SD888’s best cycle score was higher at 5915 (8.6% higher), but it couldn’t sustain this performance for long, with a low score of 11.8% lower, higher battery drain, and higher temperatures (and therefore lower performance).
The MediaTek Dimensity 8100 is an excellent chipset for anyone looking for an affordable gaming phone.
PCMark Work 2.0 and battery life
- MediaTek Dimensity 8100
- Average during battery test: 11400
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 870
- Average during battery test: 10175
I’m not a huge fan of the PCMark Work test, as results vary widely depending on how manufacturers decide to handle CPU frequencies under different workloads.
In the case of Realme, there is always a noticeable drop in performance after a few minutes, I guess the logic here is that the underlying firmware recognizes long low-intensity tasks and lowers the CPU frequency to support the battery.
The MediaTek Dimensity 8100 achieved solid results, but it was disappointing that it was so much lower than the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870. I hope it will be higher than Qualcomm because of its superior manufacturing process. I’ve only run the test once, so there are a lot of variables that can affect this.
In everyday use, the batteries on both phones are excellent.
Realme GT Neo 3 150W charging speed
While this has nothing to do with the chipset, both phones have 150W charging (I think there will be different variants). As far as I know, this is the fastest phone in the Western market right now.
I tested the Realme GT Neo 3 from a tablet, and once the phone had enough power to boot, the stopwatch started. I think when I start the stopwatch and note the percentage charge at different times, it says 2%:
- 3 minutes 25%
- 30% in 3 minutes 35 seconds
- 50% at 6m 30s
- 66% in 10 minutes
- 75% at 11m 50s
- 13 minutes 80%
- 91% in 16 minutes
- 95% at 17m 20s
- 99% at 18m 40s
- 100% in 19 minutes
I know a lot of people are concerned about these charging speeds and the effect on the battery. For me, I usually slow down the charge overnight and use a faster charge when I need to.
In particular, these charging speeds are amazing when you travel. I took the charger with me on a recent trip, I took dozens of photos and used Google Maps a lot, which would quickly drain the battery of any phone. Before heading out at night, I usually make a short layover at a hotel; being able to go from depleted to fully charged in under 20 minutes is very convenient, especially for those worried about running out of battery.
comprehensive
The Snapdragon 870 was probably my favorite chipset from last year, it packs a ton of performance and still does, but it doesn’t suffer from the same thermal throttling and bad battery as the Snapdragon 888.
I haven’t had a chance to use the MediaTek flagship chipset yet, but the MediaTek Dimensity 8100 is excellent. It has a similar level of performance to the Snapdragon 888, but without the annoying thermal throttling and low battery issues.
Overall, these mid-to-high-end chipsets from Qualcomm and MediaTek are so good right now, there’s really no need to spend extra money on a flagship phone just for chipset performance.
